The Novation LAUNCH CONTROL XL 3 MIDI Control Surface gives hands-on control of your DAW mixer, instruments, effects and hardware from one compact desktop unit.
8 x 60 mm faders for precise level and parameter control
The Novation LAUNCH CONTROL XL 3 MIDI Control Surface is a hands-on desktop controller that puts your DAW mixer, virtual instruments, effects and external hardware under your fingers. Instead of reaching for a mouse to ride levels, tweak a filter or mute a track, you move real faders, turn encoders with LED feedback and press assignable buttons, while a clear OLED display shows what you are controlling. It connects over USB-C and through full-size five-pin MIDI ports, so it works as the centre of a computer-based studio, a hybrid setup with hardware synths, or a compact live rig.
Why Choose Novation LAUNCH CONTROL XL 3 MIDI Control Surface?
The Launch Control XL 3 earns its place because it balances breadth with immediacy. Eight long-throw faders give fine control over levels and sends, twenty-four encoders cover pans, EQs and plug-in parameters, and sixteen buttons handle mute, solo, arm and track selection without menu diving. The OLED display removes guesswork by showing parameter feedback in real time, and the ability to store fifteen custom modes in Novation Components means one surface can switch between a mixing layout, a synth-control layout and a performance layout in moments. Because it is USB bus powered and class compliant, setup is fast on Mac, Windows and iOS, and the five-pin MIDI ports let it drive hardware directly, with or without a computer in the chain.
Key Features
Eight 60 mm faders: long-throw faders for precise level, send and parameter control, with two buttons below each fader for track functions.
24 endless encoders with RGB LEDs: smooth rotary controls whose LED rings brighten or dim to reflect position, ideal for pan, EQ and plug-in control.
16 assignable buttons: customisable buttons for mute, solo, arm, select and other track or parameter functions.
128 x 64 OLED display: a crisp monochrome display that gives real-time feedback on the parameter under control.
USB-C and five-pin MIDI: one USB-C port for power and data plus MIDI In, Out and Out2/Thru for hardware synths and effects.
15 custom modes: user-defined layouts stored through Novation Components for DAW, hardware and hybrid workflows.
Best Suited For
The Launch Control XL 3 suits producers who mix in the box and want tactile control, performers who need reliable hands-on control on stage, and studio owners building a hybrid setup around hardware synths and effects. It is a strong fit for Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio and Cubase users, and for anyone who regularly maps controls to plug-ins and wants those mappings to be recallable rather than rebuilt each session.
Setup and Connection Guide
Connect the Launch Control XL 3 to your computer with the supplied USB-C to USB-A cable; it is bus powered, so no separate power supply is needed for computer use. For hardware control, connect the five-pin MIDI In, Out and Out2/Thru ports to your synths, drum machines or effects, noting that the MIDI outputs can also supply power over MIDI within their stated limits. Open Novation Components to create or load custom modes, assign faders, encoders and buttons to the parameters you use most, and save up to fifteen layouts to the unit. In your DAW, select the Launch Control XL 3 as a control surface or map it manually, then use the transport controls for play, stop and record and the page and track buttons to move across larger sessions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Launch Control XL 3 work without a computer?
Yes, for hardware control. Its five-pin MIDI In, Out and Out2/Thru ports let it control MIDI-equipped hardware directly, while computer use adds DAW integration and the Components editor for custom modes.
How many custom layouts can it store?
Up to fifteen user-defined custom modes can be stored through Novation Components, so different mappings for mixing, instruments and performance can be recalled without rebuilding them.
What software is included?
The bundle listed for this model includes Ableton Live 12 Lite together with plug-ins from Klevgrand, Baby Audio and Output, giving a complete starting point for recording and production.
