The Sennheiser EW 100 ENG G4 is a portable UHF wireless set built for mobile journalism and video production, where the receiver lives on a camera. This Band A version tunes across 516 to 558 MHz. The set works around one camera receiver: an EK 100 G4 portable receiver, an SK 100 G4 bodypack transmitter with an ME 2-II clip-on lavalier microphone, and an SKP 100 G4 plug-on transmitter that turns a wired dynamic microphone into a wireless one.

The system offers up to 42 MHz of switching bandwidth with 1,680 tunable frequencies in 25 kHz steps, organised into 20 frequency banks with up to 12 factory-preset channels each, plus a programmable bank. An automatic frequency scan finds open spectrum, and transmitters synchronise to the receiver over infrared, so channel changes on location take seconds. HDX companding and a pilot tone squelch keep the audio clean when a transmitter is switched off.

The bodypack’s audio frequency response runs from 80 to 18,000 Hz on the microphone input and 25 to 18,000 Hz on the line input, and its locking 3.5 mm socket keeps the lavalier cable seated while the wearer moves. A programmable mute switch, auto-lock and a backlit display cover the practical details of a shoot day.

The plug-on channel: any dynamic microphone, wireless

The SKP 100 G4 plugs directly onto a standard dynamic microphone’s XLR connector, which makes it the reporter’s tool in this set: a handheld interview microphone for vox pops, press conferences and event coverage, with no cable tying the reporter to the camera. It shares the bodypack’s tuning range and HDX compander, and weighs about 195 g including batteries. The crew can choose per story which source to run.

Receiver, cables and power on location

The EK 100 G4 uses adaptive diversity reception for a stable link up to 100 metres in line of sight, and outputs audio from a 3.5 mm jack at up to +12 dBu, mono and unbalanced, matched to camera inputs with an adjustable output level. The set includes the CL 1 line cable, a CL 100 XLR-to-3.5 mm adapter cable and the CA 2 camera adapter for shoe mounting. Receiver and transmitters each run on two AA batteries or an optional BA 2015 accupack, with side charging contacts and four-step battery indicators.
