Description
Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone
The Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone is a highly directional shotgun microphone for camcorders and video DSLRs, built to lift the audio of video productions far above the sound of a camera’s built-in microphone. Its supercardioid and lobar pattern focuses on the subject in front of the camera while pushing side and rear noise down, making it a dependable tool for filmmakers, documentaries, weddings and online video.
Why Choose Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone?
The Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone earns its place in a camera bag because it solves the most common video-audio problems in one compact, rugged package. Its interference tube and directional pattern capture distant dialogue clearly where an omnidirectional camera mic would pick up room echo and handling noise. High sensitivity and low-noise circuitry mean cleaner recordings without pushing noisy camera preamps hard, and a gentle treble rise keeps speech clear and intelligible. The switchable low-cut filter at 100 Hz removes rumble from air conditioning and traffic, while the all-metal housing survives the knocks of location work.
Key Features
- Supercardioid and lobar pattern: Pronounced on-axis directivity with strong attenuation of side and rear sound.
- Phantom or battery powered: Runs on 48 V phantom power or a single AA battery for up to 150 hours.
- Switchable low-cut filter: 100 Hz filter cuts rumble and low-frequency noise at the flick of a switch.
- Low battery indicator: Warns when about 8 hours of battery life remain.
- Camera shoe shockmount included: Mounts to a camera or tripod and isolates handling vibration.
- Foam windscreen included: Reduces wind noise by up to 25 dB, with a coiled XLR to 3.5 mm adapter cable in the box.
Best Suited For
The Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone suits independent filmmakers, documentary crews, wedding videographers, journalists and YouTubers who record interviews, dialogue and events on a camera. It is also a strong choice for nature and travel videographers who need to reach distant subjects, and for educators and corporate teams recording presentations and training videos with clear, professional sound.
Setup and Connection Guide
Fit the Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Microphone into the supplied shoe shockmount and slide it onto the camera hot shoe or a tripod, then connect the XLR output to a camera, recorder or mixer using the supplied coiled adapter cable for a 3.5 mm mic input, or a standard XLR cable for an XLR input. If the camera supplies 48 V phantom power, use that; otherwise insert a single AA battery and switch the microphone on, checking that the low-battery indicator stays off. Aim the microphone at the subject, enable the low-cut filter if rumble is audible, and set the camera audio gain so dialogue peaks sit below clipping. Monitor with headphones through the camera or recorder whenever possible.
