DJI RS 4 Mini Gimbal Stabilizer

The DJI RS 4 Mini is a compact three-axis gimbal stabiliser built for creators who shoot with mirrorless cameras, vlog cameras and phones, and who need to be recording within seconds of taking the rig out of a bag. It weighs approximately 890 g including the quick-release plate, yet its tested payload runs from 0.4 kg to 2 kg, which covers mainstream mirrorless bodies with standard zoom and prime lenses. Second-generation automated axis locks unfold and lock the arms as the gimbal powers on and fold them flat for storage, so setup and pack-down take moments rather than minutes. Teflon-enhanced balancing surfaces, borrowed from DJI’s flagship gimbals, make fine balance adjustments smoother, and the third-generation native vertical shooting design switches from horizontal to vertical framing in about ten seconds. A built-in battery delivers up to 13 hours of runtime in a balanced, stationary state.

Balancing and setup speed

A gimbal only stabilises well when it is balanced well, and the RS 4 Mini is designed to shorten that step. The automated axis locks remove the manual locking and unlocking routine between locations, the axis arms fold flatter to save space in a camera bag, and Teflon interlayers on the balancing axes reduce friction so small adjustments glide instead of sticking. A fine-tuning knob on the tilt axis helps dial in the last millimetre of balance with heavier lens combinations.

Tracking and follow modes

The pogo pin interface accepts the DJI RS Intelligent Tracking Module, which keeps a human subject in a consistent position in the frame during orbit shots, backward tracking and fixed-position work, and can be started with a gesture or the trigger when the module is fitted. Follow behaviour itself offers two characters: Responsive mode reacts faster to hand movements at the start and stop of a move, which suits dynamic scenes, while Smooth mode keeps the traditional, gentler RS feel for slower cinematic pans.

Power and connectivity

The internal 3100 mAh LiPo battery charges over USB-C at 9 V / 2.5 A and reaches a full charge in roughly one hour and fifty minutes with a suitable charger, returning up to 13 hours of operating time in a level, stationary state. Bluetooth 5.1 handles wireless camera control with compatible bodies, the RSS camera control port takes wired control cables, and a NATO port plus a 1/4 inch-20 mounting hole cover accessories such as briefcase handles and monitors. The touchscreen interface and the DJI Ronin app on iOS and Android expose gimbal settings, modes and calibration.

Working range

Motor performance is specified with maximum controlled rotation speeds of 360 degrees per second on pan, tilt and roll, a continuous 360 degree pan range, and generous tilt and roll travel for low-angle and underslung work. The gimbal operates between minus 10 and 45 degrees Celsius, and folded dimensions of 236 x 64 x 316 mm keep it genuinely travel-sized.
