The Epson EB-W55 is a portable business and classroom projector using Epson’s 3LCD technology with 0.59-inch C2 Fine panels. Native resolution is WXGA (1280 x 800, 16:10), and brightness is 4,000 lumens for both white and colour light output — 3LCD’s equal colour brightness means presentation graphics and video keep their colour intensity in lit rooms. The contrast ratio is 16,000:1. The 210W UHE lamp is rated for 6,000 hours in normal mode and 12,000 hours in Eco mode, keeping running costs low over years of weekday use.

Projection sizes run from 33 inches to 320 inches. The lens offers manual 1.2x optical zoom (F=1.49 to 1.72, f=16.9 to 20.28 mm) with a throw ratio of 1.30 to 1.56:1, and keystone correction is automatic for vertical (plus/minus 30 degrees) and manual for horizontal (plus/minus 30 degrees), so a square image is quick even when the projector sits off to one side. Colour reproduction covers 16.77 million colours, and a built-in 2W speaker handles audio for small rooms without external speakers.

Why equal colour brightness matters

Many single-chip projectors quote only white brightness; colour brightness can be far lower, which washes out charts, brand colours and video. Epson measures and publishes both figures, and on the EB-W55 both are 4,000 lumens — what you see in a spreadsheet is what you see in a photograph at the same brightness. 3LCD also has no colour wheel, so there are no rainbow artefacts for sensitive viewers during video playback or fast-moving content.

Connections and portability

Per Epson’s specification, the EB-W55 provides two HDMI inputs, a USB 2.0 Type A port and a USB 2.0 Type B service port, with built-in wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n) supporting screen sharing via Epson’s iProjection app. Two HDMI inputs cover a laptop and a media player at once without cable swapping. At 2.6 kg, with dimensions of 302 x 87 x 234 mm, the EB-W55 moves between meeting rooms or travels in its carry case without effort, and suits both tabletop use and fixed ceiling mounting.
