Epson EH-TW7100 4K PRO-UHD Projector – The Living-Room 4K All-Rounder

The Epson EH-TW7100 is the projector for homes that want the big-screen 4K experience without turning the living room into a bat cave or hiring an installer. Its 3LCD engine produces 3,000 lumens of both white and colour brightness with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, and Epson’s 4K PRO-UHD pixel-shifting technology accepts and displays 4K HDR content with a sharpness far beyond Full HD. Screens run from 40 inches up to a wall-filling 500 inches.

What makes the TW7100 unusually easy to live with is placement flexibility: a 1.6x optical zoom and wide manual lens shift (vertical ±60%, horizontal ±24%) let it sit off-centre on a shelf or table and still project a perfectly squared image, with no digital keystone softening the picture.

• Wide lens shift (vertical ±60%, horizontal ±24%) and 1.6x manual zoom
• Projection sizes from 40 inches to 500 inches
• Built-in 2 x 10 W stereo speakers for instant, receiver-free sound
• Bluetooth audio output to soundbars, speakers and headphones
• Two HDMI inputs (HDCP 2.2) and 3D support for compatible content

Why 3LCD looks the way it does

Three separate LCD chips – one each for red, green and blue – mean the TW7100 shows full colour in every pixel at full brightness, with no colour wheel and none of the rainbow artefacts some viewers see on single-chip designs. Colour brightness matching white brightness matters in practice: a projector can quote high lumens yet look washed out in colour scenes. The TW7100’s image stays vivid for cricket, football and films alike, and 10-bit colour processing keeps skies and shadows free of banding.

Gaming and sport on a giant screen

Bright, smooth motion handling and responsive performance make the TW7100 a natural for live sport, where its brightness keeps the picture lively with curtains partly open, and for big-screen console gaming that trades a monitor’s small precision for sheer scale. A film of cricket at 120 inches is a different experience from the same match on a television, and this projector needs no dedicated dark room to deliver it.

Setup and ownership

Zoom and lens shift are manual dials on the unit – set them once during installation and forget them. The lamp is rated up to 5,000 hours in Eco mode, which at a film a day runs to years of viewing, and the built-in speakers plus Bluetooth audio mean a streaming stick in one HDMI port is a complete system on day one; an AV receiver and speakers can join later through the second port. The TW7100 also supports 3D with compatible RF glasses for collections that include it.

For a first projector – or a family room that does films, matches and games in equal measure – the EH-TW7100 is the safe, bright, flexible choice.
