Epson EH-LS800B Smart Laser Projector

Epson EH-LS800B Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector

The Epson EH-LS800B is the flagship of Epson’s EpiqVision Ultra range: a super-ultra-short-throw laser projector that sits on a TV cabinet a few centimetres from the wall and fills screens from 80 to 150 inches. Its 3LCD engine delivers 4,000 lumens of both white and colour brightness, and Epson’s 4K PRO-UHD pixel-shifting presents a 4K-enhanced image from the 1080p panels. A 20 W sound system by Yamaha and Android TV are built in, making the LS800B a complete living-room projection system in one box.

Key features

• 4,000 lumens white and colour brightness (3LCD)
• 4K PRO-UHD image with pixel-shifting enhancement
• Ultra short throw: 100-inch image from 9.8 cm
• Laser light source rated for 20,000 hours
• 20 W 2.1-channel sound by Yamaha
• Android TV with Chromecast built in
• Dedicated gaming input with under 20 ms input lag

3LCD brightness and colour

Because 3LCD projects all three primary colours simultaneously, the LS800B’s colour light output equals its white light output at 4,000 lumens — colour brightness that single-chip designs cannot match at the same white rating, and with no rainbow artefacts. Dynamic contrast reaches beyond 2,500,000:1, HDR10 and HLG are supported, and 10-bit colour processing renders over a billion colours. Frame interpolation and Super Resolution processing are on board for broadcast and streaming content.

Ultra short throw placement

The 0.16:1 to 0.40:1 throw range means the projector replaces a television on the same furniture: a 100-inch image needs the unit less than 10 cm from the wall, and the largest 150-inch image still sits within about half a metre. There are no ceiling mounts, no long cable runs, and no shadows from people crossing the room. An ambient-light-rejecting screen is the recommended partner for daytime rooms.

Sound by Yamaha and smart features

The built-in 2.1-channel Yamaha system uses two satellite drivers and a woofer for a genuine 20 W output, and the projector doubles as a Bluetooth speaker for a phone when the screen is off. Android TV provides the streaming apps, Google Assistant voice search and Chromecast casting, while the third HDMI port is dedicated to gaming with input lag under 20 ms, including at 1080p/120 Hz. Fan noise is 32 dB in normal mode and a whisper-quiet 19 dB in eco.

The package

The LS800B measures 695 x 341 x 156 mm, weighs 12.3 kg and is finished in black. Three HDMI inputs (HDCP 2.3, with ARC), three USB-A ports, optical audio output and dual-band Wi-Fi complete the connections. A motion sensor dims the light output when someone leans over the lens, protecting eyes during close adjustments, and a light-source life of 20,000 hours equates to roughly a decade of typical evening viewing.
