ViewSonic LS860WU WUXGA Short Throw Laser Projector

The ViewSonic LS860WU is a short-throw installation projector for meeting rooms, classrooms and signage where the projector must sit close to the screen. Its laser phosphor light source delivers 5,000 ANSI lumens at WUXGA resolution (1920 x 1200) and is rated for 20,000 hours, while the 0.81:1 to 0.89:1 short-throw lens fills a large screen from about a metre away — so presenters can stand at the screen without casting shadows or being dazzled by the beam.

Laser phosphor performance

The second-generation laser phosphor engine pairs its 5,000-lumen output with a rated contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1 using dynamic light control. Laser sources hold their brightness and colour point across their service life in a way lamps cannot, and the sealed optical design keeps dust out of the light path — a practical advantage in classrooms and public signage sites where filter cleaning is easily forgotten. Short throw in practice

Projecting from roughly a metre means the LS860WU works in rooms where a standard-throw projector would have to hang in the middle of the ceiling, competing with lights and fans. It is the natural partner for interactive whiteboards and touch displays, and the short distance keeps the image bright by reducing the effect of ambient light across the throw. The 1.1x zoom gives framing tolerance, and the wide lens shift — half the picture height vertically — corrects placement compromises without keystone distortion.

Installation features

Beyond lens shift, the projector supports 360-degree orientation and portrait mode for digital signage, H/V keystone and corner adjustment for imperfect mounts, and Crestron and AMX network control for managed estates. HDBaseT carries video, audio and control over a single Cat cable up to 100 metres, simplifying the cable run to a ceiling mount. Two 10 W speakers provide room audio for presentations and video content.

Connections

Two HDMI 1.4a inputs, HDBaseT, VGA, composite, component and audio connections cover the legacy and modern source mix found in education estates, and a powered USB port supplies a streaming or wireless dongle.
