The 706 S3 is the stand-mount speaker in Bowers & Wilkins’ 700 Series that most living rooms can actually accommodate – and it gives away very little to its larger siblings. The driver technology, in plain terms

The honest difference is the tweeter housing: the 705 S3 carries its tweeter in a separate Solid Body housing on top of the cabinet, while the 706 S3 keeps a decoupled Carbon Dome within the cabinet itself. The 706 S3 is the more conventional, shelf-friendlier shape and the more accessible entry into the same driver family. Choose it when cabinet form and budget matter as much as the last degree of treble isolation.

Setup and system matching

Give them proper stands at ear height, a little clear space behind the rear port, and an amplifier in the recommended range that is comfortable into a load that dips to 3.7 ohms. Connect with the amplifier off, keep polarity consistent, and retain the terminal links unless you are genuinely bi-wiring. Start with the speakers firing straight ahead or with slight toe-in, then adjust in small steps with music you know well.
