Q Acoustics 3010I Compact Bookshelf Speakers – Pair – Carbon Black

Q Acoustics 3010i Compact Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Carbon Black) – compact 3000i bookshelf speaker

The Q Acoustics 3010i is the smallest speaker in the 3000i range, a compact two-way bookshelf design for listeners who want genuine hi-fi sound in smaller rooms, on desks or as part of a space-conscious surround system. Despite cabinets just 150 mm wide, the 3010i delivers a balanced, full-bodied presentation that has made the 3000i series one of the most awarded budget ranges in its class. This listing is a pair in the Carbon Black finish.

Q Acoustics enlarged the 3010i cabinet by around 25 percent over its 3010 predecessor, using the extra volume for deeper bass rather than a bigger footprint on the shelf. Inside, Point-to-Point bracing, computer-placed to stiffen the enclosure where it matters, keeps cabinet noise down so the drivers are heard rather than the box. The result is a speaker suited equally to a first stereo system, a desktop setup driven by a compact amplifier, or front and surround duties in a 3010i-based 5.1 cinema package.

Key features

• Two-way reflex design with a 100 mm (4 inch) bass driver and 22 mm (0.9 inch) tweeter
• Decoupled high-frequency driver with wide surround for even dispersion and a wide stereo image
• Cabinet around 25 percent larger than the previous 3010 for deeper bass
• Point-to-Point internal bracing to reduce enclosure resonance and colouration
• Frequency response of 65 Hz to 30 kHz
• 86 dB sensitivity and 6 ohms nominal impedance, easy for modest amplifiers to drive
• Low-profile terminals that accept 4 mm banana plugs and allow close-to-wall placement
• Magnetic grilles and chrome driver bezels for a clean, modern finish
• Sold as a pair in Carbon Black

Sound character

The 3010i is tuned for balance rather than spectacle. The 100 mm bass driver, working in the enlarged reflex cabinet, produces bass weight that seems out of proportion to the enclosure, while the decoupled tweeter keeps treble smooth and free of the hardness that makes small speakers tiring. Stereo imaging is a particular strength: the wide-dispersion tweeter creates a broad, stable soundstage, so voices sit precisely between the speakers and recordings open up even in nearfield desktop use. A subwoofer can be added later for full-range home theatre work, where the 3010i crosses over cleanly at standard receiver settings.

Cabinet and design

Q Acoustics paid unusual attention to the enclosure at this price. Point-to-Point bracing is placed by computer analysis to quieten panel vibration, and the low-profile rear terminals are recessed so banana plugs do not force the speaker away from the wall, useful on shallow shelves. The Carbon Black finish, magnetic grille and chrome bezel detailing give the pair a neat, contemporary look that sits comfortably in living rooms and studies alike.

Placement and partnering

The 3010i works on stands, shelves or dedicated Q Acoustics wall brackets, and its modest sensitivity and impedance demands suit stereo amplifiers rated from 15 to 75 watts, or AV receivers of 50 to 125 watts per channel. Keep the cabinets a short distance from the rear wall for the cleanest bass, or use the supplied port bungs if they must sit close. In a cinema system, add the matching 3090Ci centre and 3060S subwoofer for a fully matched 3000i package.

The 3010i is the right choice when space is limited but sound quality is not negotiable. For small to medium rooms, desktop systems and compact surround setups, it offers the refinement of the 3000i range in its most placeable form.
