Klipsch CS-18C II Ceiling Speaker (Black)

Klipsch CS-18C II Ceiling Speaker (Black)

The Klipsch CS-18C II is an 8-inch two-way in-ceiling speaker from the Klipsch Custom Series, sold as a single speaker with a black baffle and frame and a white paintable grille. It applies the design principles of Klipsch’s premium architectural and box speaker lines at an accessible level: an 8-inch polymer woofer for full, dynamic sound and a 1-inch polymer dome tweeter for the top end. The larger woofer is the point of this model. In open-plan rooms and larger spaces, it delivers the bass weight and output that smaller ceiling speakers cannot, so music sounds complete from the ceiling alone.

Key features

• 8-inch (203.2 mm) polymer woofer for fuller bass and higher output
• 1-inch polymer dome tweeter
• Frequency range of 55 Hz to 20 kHz, plus or minus 3 dB
• High 92 dB sensitivity at 2.83 V and 1 m
• Power handling of 40 W RMS and 160 W peak
• Patented Sky Hook Cinch installation system, tool-free fitting
• Bezel-free magnetic grille, paintable to match the ceiling

Driver design and Klipsch efficiency

The CS-18C II pairs its 8-inch polymer woofer with a 1-inch polymer dome tweeter in an ABS infinite-baffle enclosure. Polymer keeps the cone light and stiff, which suits the Klipsch approach of high sensitivity and dynamic, detailed sound. At 92 dB sensitivity measured at 2.83 volts and 1 metre, this is an efficient speaker: it reaches useful levels in large rooms from modest amplifier power, which matters in distributed audio where one amplifier drives many zones. The 55 Hz lower limit gives music real body without a subwoofer, while the top end extends to 20 kHz for clear detail on voices and instruments.

Sky Hook installation

Klipsch’s patented Sky Hook Cinch system is the CS-18C II’s defining installation feature. The dog legs engage automatically when the speaker is pushed into the cutout, clamping with a preset force that removes the risk of over-torquing the ceiling material. If the surface is uneven, a quarter turn of each dog leg screw finishes the fit. Klipsch rates the system as cutting installation time by up to 75 percent compared with conventional screw-down mounting, which adds up quickly when a project has a speaker in every room. The speaker needs a 9.57 inch (243 mm) cutout and 4.17 inches (106 mm) of mounting depth.

Bezel-free magnetic grille

The redesigned powder-coated steel grille is magnetic and bezel-free, so there is no visible frame ring around the speaker once it is fitted. The grille is white and paintable, letting it disappear into the ceiling finish; the baffle and frame beneath are black. The result is one of the cleanest-looking ceiling installations in its class, with nothing on show but a flat circular grille.

Where it works best

With 40 W RMS and 160 W peak power handling and 8-ohm compatibility, the CS-18C II runs from standard AV receivers and multi-room amplifiers. Use pairs for stereo in larger bedrooms, living rooms and open-plan kitchen-diners, singles for centre or corridor coverage, and multiples as home theatre surround or height channels where the 8-inch driver keeps effects convincing. The IK-800-C II install kit and ME-800-C fire-rated enclosure are available separately for pre-construction and code-driven work.

The CS-18C II is the Custom Series choice when the room is big enough that a 6.5-inch ceiling speaker would sound thin: an efficient 8-inch design, genuinely fast tool-free installation and a grille that vanishes into the ceiling.
