The TAGA Harmony TCW-480R SLIM is a 2-way architectural loudspeaker from TAGA’s TCW series, supplied here as a pair, and defined by one figure: a cabinet only 6.5 cm deep. That extra-slim EX enclosure is built for the shallow ceiling voids and partition walls where a standard in-ceiling or in-wall speaker physically will not fit. Each speaker uses a 165 mm (6.5-inch) Kevlar cone bass-midrange driver and a 13 mm (0.5-inch) PEI dome high-frequency driver, fed by a crossover built from close-tolerance components. Power handling is rated at 75 W RMS and 100 W maximum, frequency response runs from 42 Hz to 20 kHz, sensitivity is 90 dB and impedance is 8 ohms, so a pair can be driven comfortably by ordinary AV receivers and multiroom amplifiers in stereo zones or home theatre layouts.

Built for Shallow Spaces

Mounting depth is the usual deal-breaker for architectural speakers. Apartment false ceilings, service voids and stud partition walls often offer only a few centimetres behind the surface, which rules out conventional designs. The TCW-480R SLIM is engineered specifically for those restricted spaces, bringing full-range 2-way performance to rooms that would otherwise be limited to small surface-mounted boxes. A slim cabinet is more prone to flex and resonance, so TAGA builds the chassis from TIMPC injection-moulded polymer with a honeycomb structure and rubber coating, stiffening the enclosure and keeping the drivers working in a stable, distortion-resistant frame. Each speaker needs a 204 mm cutout and weighs 1.05 kg, which keeps handling overhead straightforward.

Drivers, Crossover and Room Adjustment

The Kevlar bass-midrange cone is chosen for stiffness and low distortion at its size, and the ferrofluid-cooled PEI dome handles the top end with the wide, even dispersion TAGA tunes across this series, so the tonal balance stays consistent as listeners move around the room rather than only in one seat. A treble switch acts as an environmental equaliser, allowing the high-frequency level to be raised or lowered by 3 dB to compensate for speaker position and room surfaces: useful when one pair fires into a reflective kitchen and another into a soft-furnished bedroom. The close-tolerance crossover keeps the handover between the two drivers neutral, which is what distributed audio and surround duties both depend on.

Installation and Finishing

The TEI easy-install bracket system uses ABS clamps in a visible blue colour, easy to find and tighten in a dark ceiling void, and the TEC push-in binding posts accept raw speaker cable up to 10 AWG as well as banana and pin plugs, so terminating cables overhead stays simple. Once installed, the TSLB super low-profile bezel holds the magnetically mounted grille almost flush with the surface, and both grille and frame can be painted to match the room, leaving the pair effectively invisible in use.
