This is the Gold Tone edition of the fifth-generation Beosound A9, Bang & Olufsen’s statement all-in-one speaker: the same seven-driver, 1,500-watt acoustic system as the standard A9, finished with gold-tone aluminium detailing that pairs with warm interiors and brass or bronze fixtures elsewhere in the room. Under the fabric, the specification is flagship-level — an 8-inch woofer on a 400 W amplifier, Active Room Compensation, and response from 33 Hz to 23 kHz at up to 100 dB SPL.

The finish

Gold Tone is one of B&O’s curated A9 combinations: a gold-tone aluminium ring and leg finish set against the fabric front, chosen to sit with warm metals and timber rather than chrome. Because the A9’s covers unclip and the speaker is routinely re-dressed when owners redecorate, the acoustic unit and the visible finish are separate decisions — the Gold Tone hardware is the permanent part of the look. Buyers comparing finishes should note the acoustic specification is identical across the A9 range.

Acoustic system

Seven drivers are arranged across the face of the disc: an 8-inch woofer for the bass (95 dB SPL bass capability), two 3-inch midrange units, two 1.5-inch full-range drivers that widen dispersion, and two 3/4-inch tweeters. Each is driven by its own Class D amplifier — 400 W, 2 x 200 W, 2 x 200 W and 2 x 150 W respectively — under DSP control that manages crossover, protection and the room compensation. Maximum sound pressure is 100 dB SPL at one metre, enough for rooms from 15 to 100 square metres.

Room compensation and control

Active Room Compensation uses the A9’s internal microphone to measure its acoustic surroundings and correct for wall, corner or free placement, and the Bang & Olufsen app adds Beosonic tone shaping and full setup. On the speaker itself, a hand slid along the top arc raises or lowers the volume, and taps manage playback — controls designed to be used without reaching for a phone.

Streaming platform

The Mozart-based platform brings Wi-Fi 6 streaming with AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and integrated radio, plus Bluetooth 5.3 for guests. Beolink Multiroom links the A9 into a whole-home B&O system, and a second fifth-generation A9 can be added later as a stereo partner. Ethernet and USB-C line-in (via adapter) provide wired options.
