Bang & Olufsen Beosound Emerge Gold Tone And Light Oak Speaker

Bang & Olufsen Beosound Emerge Gold Tone And Light Oak Speaker

The Bang & Olufsen Beosound Emerge is a slim connected home speaker whose shape takes its cue from a book: at just 6.7 cm deep, it is designed to sit on a shelf, side table or piece of furniture where a conventional speaker cabinet would look intrusive. This version combines a Gold Tone aluminium finish with light oak side panels and woven fabric by Kvadrat. Behind that restrained exterior is a three-way active system — a 4-inch woofer, a 1.45-inch midrange driver and a 0.6-inch tweeter, each with its own Class-D amplifier — together with WiFi streaming, Bluetooth and Bang & Olufsen’s Active Room Compensation. It is a mains-powered speaker for a permanent listening position, not a battery portable, and it can work alone, as a stereo pair, or as part of a Beolink Multiroom setup.

Key features

• Three-way active design: A 4-inch woofer, 1.45-inch midrange and 0.6-inch tweeter, driven by Class-D amplifiers rated 60W for the woofer and 30W each for midrange and tweeter.
• Slim book-like cabinet: Dimensions of 16.5 x 25.5 x 6.7 cm and a weight of 1.3 kg allow shelf placement where deeper speakers do not fit.
• Wide dispersion: The driver arrangement is designed for an ultra-wide 180-degree soundstage, so the listening position is less critical than with a conventional forward-firing speaker.
• Active Room Compensation: The speaker adapts its output to its placement and the room’s acoustics, supported by Adaptive Bass Linearization and thermal protection.
• Broad streaming support: Chromecast built-in, Apple AirPlay, Spotify Connect and Bluetooth audio streaming, plus Bang & Olufsen Radio and Beolink Multiroom.
• Gold Tone and light oak finish: Pearl-blasted Gold Tone aluminium, light oak side panels and a golden woven Kvadrat fabric front define this variant.
• Wired connections included: Ethernet, a line-in and optical combination jack, USB-C power input and a micro-USB service port sit alongside the wireless options.
• Stereo pairing: Two Beosound Emerge speakers can be paired for stereo using Bang & Olufsen Stereo Pairing.

Sound and room fit

Bang & Olufsen rates the frequency range at 45 to 22,000 Hz, with a maximum sound pressure level of 92 dB SPL at 1 metre and bass capability of 72 dB SPL at 1 metre, and recommends the Emerge for rooms of 5 to 30 square metres. Those figures describe a speaker intended for satisfying listening in small to medium spaces rather than for filling a large hall. The side-firing woofer arrangement and wide dispersion are central to the design: sound spreads broadly from a cabinet that can sit against a wall or among books, and Active Room Compensation then adjusts for the compromises that such placement normally creates. Sound character can be further shaped with Beosonic tone controls in the Bang & Olufsen app.

Connectivity and control

Dual-band WiFi covering 802.11 b/g/a/n/ac at 2.4 and 5 GHz and Bluetooth 5.0 handle wireless sources, while the Ethernet port provides a fixed network alternative. Multiroom playback is available through Apple AirPlay, Chromecast and BeoLink Multiroom technologies. Control options include the Bang & Olufsen app and the optional Beoremote One BT and Beoremote Halo remotes, as well as the touch controls integrated into the top surface of the speaker itself. Power is via USB-C from the built-in supply arrangement described by Bang & Olufsen, with a 2-metre polymer USB-C power cable included; typical power consumption is quoted at 15 watts.

Design

The Emerge was designed by Benjamin Hubert of LAYER. Its materials are meant to be handled and seen up close — aluminium, oak and textile rather than moulded plastic — and its proportions deliberately echo a closed book standing on a shelf. In Gold Tone with light oak, it reads as a piece of furniture finish rather than a piece of black electronics, which is the point of this variant.

For listeners who want a connected speaker that occupies almost no visual or physical depth but still offers a genuine three-way active system, room compensation and the Bang & Olufsen multiroom ecosystem, the Beosound Emerge in Gold Tone and light oak is a distinctive and carefully considered option.
