JBL Go 4 Portable Speaker – Black

JBL Go 4 Portable Speaker – Black

The JBL Go 4 is the smallest speaker in JBL’s portable range: an ultra-portable Bluetooth speaker that fits in a palm, weighs 0.19kg and still produces the clear, punchy JBL Pro Sound the Go series is known for. This is the Black version. A redesigned integrated loop is built into the body, so the speaker can be clipped to a bag strap, hung from a hook or carried on a finger without a separate case or lanyard.

Inside, a 45mm transducer driven by 4.2W RMS of output covers a frequency range of 90Hz to 20kHz with a signal-to-noise ratio above 85dB. For a speaker measuring just 94.3 x 75.7 x 42.2mm, the Go 4 plays noticeably bigger than it looks, with enough low-end weight for voices, acoustic music and pop to sound complete at desk and bedside distances. The JBL Portable app adds a customisable equaliser for adjusting highs, mids and lows, and Playtime Boost, which retunes the output to extend battery life by up to two extra hours.

Key features

• JBL Pro Sound from a 45mm transducer with 4.2W RMS output
• Up to 7 hours of playtime, plus up to 2 more hours with Playtime Boost
• IP67 waterproof and dustproof construction
• Bluetooth 5.3 with multi-point connection to two devices
• Auracast support: pair two Go 4 speakers for stereo, or link multiple Auracast speakers
• Redesigned integrated carry loop and ultra-compact 0.19kg body
• USB-C charging, about 3 hours for a full charge

Built for wet and dusty places

The IP67 rating means the Go 4 is fully dust-tight and can be immersed in water up to a metre deep for 30 minutes, so poolside splashes, rain on a trek, sand at the beach and bathroom steam are all within its working conditions. Rinse it clean under a tap after sandy or salty use, let it dry fully before charging, and it is ready to go again. That durability, in a speaker this small, is the main reason the Go series gets carried where larger speakers stay at home.

Pairing and bigger sound

Bluetooth 5.3 handles pairing, and multi-point connection lets the Go 4 stay connected to two devices at once, for example a laptop and a phone, switching as playback starts on either. For more output, two Go 4 speakers can be paired for true stereo separation, and Auracast support allows the Go 4 to join a larger group of Auracast-enabled JBL speakers playing the same audio across a room or outdoor space.

Battery and charging

The built-in lithium-ion polymer battery (3.23Wh) delivers up to 7 hours of playtime depending on volume and content, with Playtime Boost stretching that further when you need endurance over maximum punch. Charging is over USB-C and takes about 3 hours from a 5V supply. The speaker itself weighs 0.19kg, so the battery capacity has been balanced against the carry-everywhere brief rather than maximum runtime.

In Black, the Go 4 stays discreet on a desk, in a car or in a backpack side pocket. If you want a genuinely pocketable speaker with real waterproofing and JBL tuning, this is the one to keep in your daily bag.
