Sonos Roam 2 Portable Speaker – Olive

Sonos Roam 2 Portable Speaker

The Sonos Roam 2 in Olive is a compact portable smart speaker that works in two worlds. At home it joins your WiFi network as part of a Sonos system, with voice control and automatic room tuning. Away from home it switches to Bluetooth streaming from a phone, and its IP67 rating means dust and water are not a reason to leave it behind. It weighs approximately 0.43kg, plays for up to 10 hours on its battery and recharges over USB-C. Button controls on the speaker itself keep playback handling simple when your phone is in another room or packed away.

One speaker for home and away

Most portable speakers are Bluetooth only, and most home smart speakers cannot leave the house. The Roam 2 covers both roles. On WiFi it behaves like any other Sonos speaker: stream through the Sonos ecosystem, group it with other rooms, or send music with Apple AirPlay 2 from an iPhone, iPad or Mac. Away from your network, Bluetooth 5.2 takes over for direct streaming from a phone or tablet. That split makes the Roam 2 a useful travel and everyday speaker, because the same unit that plays in the kitchen in the morning can go into a bag for the afternoon without a second device being bought for the job.

Trueplay tuning and voice control

Small speakers are placed in awkward acoustic spots: on kitchen counters, bathroom shelves, picnic tables and hotel desks. Automatic Trueplay tuning measures how the surroundings reflect sound and adjusts the speaker output to suit the space, so the balance stays clear rather than boomy or thin. Sonos Voice Control and Amazon Alexa are built in for hands-free requests on WiFi, covering music playback, volume, timers and questions when your hands are busy. When voice control is not wanted or not available, the physical button controls handle playback directly on the unit.

Built for water, dust and the outdoors

The IP67 rating describes a sealed build tested for dust ingress and immersion in water, which is why the Roam 2 suits poolside use, beach trips, garden listening and bathrooms where steam and splashes are normal. At approximately 0.43kg it is light enough to carry in one hand or a small bag, and the compact shape stands on a surface without taking over the space. Battery life of up to 10 hours covers a full day of intermittent listening away from a socket, and USB-C charging with USB-C PD support means the same modern chargers used for phones and laptops can top it up.

Stereo pairing and growing the system

A single Roam 2 is a mono portable speaker, but pairing it with a second Roam 2 creates a stereo pair with a proper left and right image. That is a worthwhile step for a desk, a bedroom or a regular outdoor spot where two speakers can stay in place. Vocals settle in the centre, instruments spread across the space, and films and videos gain the width that a single small cabinet cannot produce alone. Because the Roam 2 is also a Sonos speaker on WiFi, it fits into a wider Sonos home rather than standing apart from it.

In Olive, the Roam 2 pairs a soft, natural finish with a genuinely portable build. WiFi and Bluetooth streaming, automatic tuning, voice control and an IP67 sealed body make it a small speaker that earns its place both inside the home and outside it.
