Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite with Alexa Voice Remote Lite

The Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite turns any TV with an HDMI port into a streaming TV. Plug the stick in behind the screen, connect it to Wi-Fi, and your apps, films and shows appear in up to 1080p Full HD with HDR support. It is Amazon’s entry-level Fire TV stick: fast quad-core performance for everyday streaming, an Alexa Voice Remote Lite in the box, and a simple interface that gathers major streaming services into one place. Note what the Lite does not do — it is a Full HD device, not a 4K stick, and the Lite remote has no TV power or volume buttons.

Key features

• Full HD streaming in 1080p and 720p at up to 60 fps
• HDR 10, HDR10+ and HLG video support for richer contrast on compatible TVs
• Quad-core 1.7 GHz processor with 8 GB internal storage
• Dual-band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi with MIMO, supporting 802.11a/b/g/n/ac networks
• Alexa Voice Remote Lite included — search and launch by voice, without TV control buttons
• Bluetooth 5.0 and Bluetooth Low Energy for headphones, speakers and controllers
• HDMI audio pass-through of Dolby-encoded audio
• Compact stick design, 86 x 30 x 13 mm and 32 g, hidden behind the TV

Streaming in Full HD with HDR

The Stick Lite outputs 1080p and 720p at up to 60 frames per second and understands HDR 10, HDR10+ and HLG formats, plus H.265, H.264 and VP9 video. On an HDR-capable Full HD television that means brighter highlights and better shadow detail from supported content, while on an older HD TV it simply delivers a clean, sharp picture. Because decoding happens in the stick, even a basic non-smart TV gains a modern streaming interface, app store and voice search.

Alexa Voice Remote Lite — and its limits

The included Alexa Voice Remote Lite lets you press and speak to search across apps, open a title or check information hands-free. It is deliberately the simple remote in the Fire TV range: it does not carry the power and volume buttons that control the television itself on higher models, so keep the TV remote nearby for volume. You can also use the free Fire TV app on a phone as a remote and voice controller, which is handy when the physical remote hides between sofa cushions.

Connections, audio and setup

Setup is three steps: plug the stick into an HDMI input (an HDMI extender helps in tight spaces), connect the micro-USB power cable to a wall outlet, and join your Wi-Fi network. Dual-band Wi-Fi with dual antennas gives steadier streaming than single-antenna sticks, Bluetooth 5.0 pairs private-listening headphones or a game controller, and HDMI pass-through sends Dolby-encoded audio to a soundbar or AV receiver. The stick needs an HD TV with HDMI capable of 1080p or 720p at 60/50 Hz and an internet connection.

Who the Lite is right for

Choose the Stick Lite for a bedroom, guest room, second TV or an older Full HD set that needs smart features at the lowest cost in the Fire TV line. If your main television is 4K, or you want the remote to control TV power and volume, step up to a 4K Fire TV model instead. For Full HD screens, the Lite covers the essentials without paying for resolution the TV cannot show.

Simple, quick and neatly hidden behind the screen, the Fire TV Stick Lite is the straightforward way to add streaming and Alexa voice search to a Full HD television.
