The Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute is Dyson’s lightweight cordless vacuum with a difference: it shows you the dust it is removing. A precisely angled beam of light in the Fluffy Optic cleaner head reveals microscopic dust on hard floors that is invisible in normal light, while a piezo sensor inside the machine counts and sizes the particles passing through, up to 15,000 times a second. Those counts appear on the LCD screen as you clean and drive the Auto mode, which raises suction when dust levels climb and relaxes it when the floor is clean. It is proof, rather than guesswork, that a room is actually done.

All of this sits in the slimmest, lightest format in Dyson’s cordless range, at 2.2 kg. A Dyson Hyperdymium motor spinning at up to 125,000 rpm generates 150 Air Watts of suction in Boost mode, and 11 Root Cyclone cyclones separate dust from the airflow so suction stays consistent as the 0.35 litre bin fills. Single-button power control replaces the hold-down trigger of earlier models, so you can swap hands mid-clean and navigate around furniture without stopping.

Two cleaner heads, every floor covered

The Absolute configuration includes both of Dyson’s key floor tools. The Fluffy Optic head uses a soft woven nylon and anti-static carbon fibre brush bar for hard floors, with its illumination angled to throw dust into sharp relief at floor level. The Motorbar head takes over on carpet, driving stiff nylon bristles into the pile while its de-tangling vanes lift hair away from the brush bar as you clean, so the head does not need constant manual clearing. Swapping heads takes seconds, and the wand reaches under low furniture where dust collects undisturbed.

Intelligent power management

Three power modes cover the range of jobs. Eco stretches run time for whole-home cleans, Boost delivers maximum suction for ground-in dirt and spot cleaning, and Auto, available with the cleaner heads and Hair screw tool attached, lets the piezo sensor set suction moment by moment based on measured dust levels. The LCD screen shows the particle count by size as you work, the mode in use and a real-time run time countdown, and it flags blockages and filter maintenance so small issues are dealt with before they affect performance.

Tools, filtration and storage

Beyond the floor heads, the supplied tools include the Hair screw tool, whose anti-tangle conical brush bar picks up long hair and pet hair from upholstery and pet beds, plus a combination tool and a crevice tool for edges, corners and car interiors; a wand clip keeps the small tools on the machine. Filtration is fully sealed and whole-machine, and the filter can be washed to maintain airflow. The point-and-shoot bin release ejects dust and debris without your hands touching the dirt, and the wall-mounted docking station stores the machine and tools while it charges, in approximately 3.5 hours.
