Onkyo TX-NR6100 7.2 Channel Thx Certified Network Av Receiver

Onkyo TX-NR6100 7.2 Channel AV Receiver – THX Select Home Cinema with 8K HDMI

The Onkyo TX-NR6100 is a 7.2 channel network AV receiver built around two ideas: certified home-cinema sound and up-to-date video switching. It carries THX Select certification, which means the design has been tested against THX reference standards for output and distortion in mid-sized rooms, and it pairs that amplifier section with HDMI 2.1 connections that pass 8K and high-frame-rate 4K signals from the latest sources.

Seven channels of amplification, each rated at 100 W into 8 ohms with two channels driven, let the TX-NR6100 run a 5.2.2 Dolby Atmos or DTS:X layout with two height channels, or a conventional 7.2 surround system. Twin subwoofer outputs support a second sub for smoother bass across the seating area, and the receiver’s networking, streaming and Zone 2 facilities make it as capable with music as it is with film soundtracks.

Key features

• 100 W per channel into 8 ohms, 20 Hz to 20 kHz, 0.08 percent THD, two channels driven
• THX Select certified amplification with THX listening modes
• Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding for 5.2.2 immersive layouts
• HDMI 2.1 on three inputs: 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz at 40 Gbps
• VRR, ALLM and QFT gaming support for low-lag, tear-free play
• AccuEQ room calibration with AccuReflex phase alignment for height speakers
• AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, DTS Play-Fi and Works with Sonos
• Zone 2 audio and video for a second room

Amplification and surround processing

Onkyo’s high-current amplifier design gives the TX-NR6100 a dynamic power rating of up to 240 W into 3 ohms at the front channels, which helps it stay composed through demanding soundtrack peaks. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X place effects in three dimensions, including overhead, while Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X upmixers can expand stereo and 5.1 material into the full speaker layout. For systems without height speakers, Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer and DTS Virtual:X create a virtualised height effect from a standard layout. A signal-to-noise ratio of 106 dB on line inputs keeps the noise floor well below the programme.

Video, gaming and connections

Six HDMI inputs and two outputs are fitted. The main output supports eARC, returning full-quality audio from a TV’s built-in apps and tuner, and the second output can feed Zone 2 video. HDR formats including Dolby Vision and HDR10 Plus are passed through, and the HDMI 2.1 inputs carry the 4K at 120 Hz signals that current games consoles produce, with Variable Refresh Rate, Auto Low Latency Mode and Quick Frame Transport keeping motion smooth and input lag low. Analogue connections include an MM phono input for a turntable, alongside optical and coaxial digital inputs.

Music, streaming and control

Dual-band Wi-Fi and Ethernet give access to Spotify, TIDAL, Amazon Music, Pandora, Deezer and TuneIn, and Bluetooth works in both directions: stream from a phone, or transmit to wireless headphones for late-night listening. The receiver works with Alexa and Google Assistant voice control, integrates with a Sonos system as a Works with Sonos component, and its Zone 2 and Zone B line outputs can send audio to another room or to a wireless headphone transmitter. Bi-amping the front speakers is supported when the height channels are not in use.

Setup and day-to-day use

AccuEQ calibration measures the room from the supplied microphone and sets levels, distances and equalisation for each speaker, with AccuReflex aligning the phase of height channels for a coherent Atmos image. At 435 x 173.5 x 379.5 mm and 9.8 kg, the TX-NR6100 fits standard AV furniture while leaving room for ventilation, which any high-current receiver needs.

For a living-room cinema that also has to handle next-generation gaming and whole-home music, the TX-NR6100 concentrates its budget where it counts: certified power, current HDMI and a complete streaming platform in one chassis.
