Universal Audio Apollo X8P Heritage Edition Audio Interface

Universal Audio Apollo X8P Heritage Edition Audio Interface – Eight Unison Preamps with Premium Plug-in Suite

The Apollo x8p Heritage Edition is the original Apollo X eight-preamp interface in its special-edition form: a 16-in / 22-out Thunderbolt 3 rackmount unit with eight Unison microphone preamps, HEXA Core DSP and elite-class 24-bit / 192 kHz conversion, supplied with a premium Heritage Edition suite of ten UAD plug-in titles in addition to the standard Realtime Analog Classics Plus bundle, subject to registration.

The hardware is the proven first-generation Apollo X platform: combo mic/line inputs with an additional DB25 line input path, DB25 line outputs for alternate and surround monitoring, two Hi-Z inputs, two headphone outputs and dual ADAT optical expansion. It remains a complete tracking and monitoring centre for studios recording multiple microphones at once.

Key features

• 16 inputs / 22 outputs, Thunderbolt 3, 24-bit / 192 kHz conversion
• 8 Unison microphone preamps with +48V phantom power
• HEXA Core UAD DSP, six cores, for realtime UAD plug-ins
• Elite-class conversion with up to 129 dB dynamic range
• Dual-Crystal clocking for low jitter and stable imaging
• 8 line inputs and 8 line outputs via DB25
• 2 Hi-Z instrument inputs and 2 headphone outputs
• Dual ADAT optical I/O, switchable to S/PDIF, and word clock I/O
• Surround monitoring support up to 7.1 format
• Heritage Edition suite of 10 premium UAD plug-in titles

Tracking with Unison and HEXA DSP

Unison technology lets each preamp work with compatible UAD plug-ins to reproduce the input behaviour of classic preamps and channel strips from makers such as Neve, API, SSL, Manley and Universal Audio. Processing runs on the six HEXA DSP cores at near-zero latency, independent of the DAW buffer size, so a drum kit, a string section or a full band can be tracked through analogue-style chains and monitored with confidence. The same DSP adds mixing power in Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Ableton Live and other major DAWs.

Conversion and monitoring

First-generation Apollo X conversion provides up to 129 dB dynamic range with low THD N, and selectable +24 dBu operation integrates cleanly with analogue consoles and high-headroom studio gear. The x8p works as a surround monitor controller up to 7.1, with alternate speaker switching, integrated talkback and assignable Dim and Mono functions from the front panel. Dual headphone outputs support performer cues from the control room position.

Expansion and system building

Two Thunderbolt 3 ports allow daisy-chaining, and up to four Thunderbolt Apollos and six total UAD devices can be combined in one system. ADAT expansion adds digital channels from external preamps and converters, while the DB25 connections keep permanent wiring to a patchbay tidy. Word clock input and output with termination switching keep expanded rigs sample-accurate.

Heritage Edition or Gen 2

The Heritage Edition designation describes the included plug-in package on this original-generation hardware, not a newer hardware revision. The later Gen 2 x8p adds updated conversion, Auto-Gain, monitor correction and bass management. Choose this Heritage Edition when the ten-title premium plug-in suite and the established Apollo X platform are the priority, and confirm the supplied licences when registering the unit.

With eight Unison preamps, HEXA processing and a substantial plug-in library included, the Apollo x8p Heritage Edition is a ready-made centre for serious multi-microphone recording.
