Description
Belden XLR Male-to-Female Cable, 15 Metre with Neutrik Connectors
This is a finished, ready-to-use balanced audio lead built on Belden cable and terminated at both ends with Neutrik XLR connectors. One end carries a three-pin XLR male plug and the other a three-pin XLR female socket, which is the standard arrangement for linking a microphone or a balanced line-level output into a mixer, stage box, audio interface or powered speaker input. At 15 metres, it is a long-run lead: the length is there for stages, halls, places of worship, conference rooms and studio live rooms where the source and the input are genuinely far apart, rather than for a desktop setup where most of the cable would sit in a coil.
Key features
- Finished 15 metre XLR lead, terminated and ready to connect
- Belden cable stock, a long-established name in professional audio cabling
- Neutrik XLR connectors at both ends
- Three-pin XLR male at one end and three-pin XLR female at the other
- Balanced analogue audio configuration for microphone and line-level signals
- Long length suited to stage, hall and installed runs
Why the connector and cable choice matters
On a microphone lead, the connectors take most of the mechanical abuse. They are plugged and unplugged, stepped around, pulled through cable runs and latched under tension. Neutrik XLR connectors are the standard fitting on professional audio equipment for good reason: the latch locks positively into the socket, the shell protects the contacts, and strain relief keeps the cable from flexing at the solder joint. Belden cable is specified the same way in studios and installed systems, where a lead is expected to keep its electrical behaviour consistent over years of handling. This assembly pairs the two, so the finished lead is only as complicated as it needs to be: a known cable, known connectors, and the standard balanced wiring that XLR equipment expects.
Balanced audio, explained simply
A three-pin XLR connection carries a balanced signal. The audio travels as a pair, and the receiving input compares the two sides and cancels interference that has been picked up equally along the run, such as hum from nearby mains wiring and lighting circuits. That cancellation is exactly what makes a 15 metre microphone run practical: an unbalanced lead of this length would collect far more noise. Balanced operation depends on the whole path, so the source output, this lead and the receiving input all need to be balanced for the benefit to apply. The same wiring also carries phantom power from a mixer or interface to a condenser microphone when the equipment provides it, with no separate power lead needed.
Working with a 15 metre run
Plan the route before you plug in. Run the lead along walls, stage edges or cable ramps rather than across walkways, keep slack at both ends so neither connector is under sideways strain, and avoid tight coils of spare cable next to power distribution, dimmers or amplifier racks. When you connect, align the plug, push it home until the latch clicks, and lower the channel gain before plugging or unplugging, especially with phantom power switched on. After the event, coil the lead in loose loops using an over-under wrap so it lies flat next time instead of twisting, and check the latch and shell for damage before it goes back into the cable trunk.
Where this lead fits
Typical jobs include a vocal or instrument microphone feeding a mixer across a stage, a direct injection box output running to a stage box, a balanced line output linking equipment racks in an auditorium, and presentation or house-of-worship systems where the lectern microphone sits well away from the mixing position. It is an analogue audio lead for microphone and line-level signals. It is not a loudspeaker cable, and it should not be used to carry amplifier output power to a passive speaker, even though the connectors may look similar to fittings found elsewhere.
If your rig needs one dependable long XLR run rather than a bundle of short leads joined together, this Belden and Neutrik assembly is built for exactly that job: standard balanced wiring, professional connectors, and the full 15 metres in a single continuous lead.
