BenQ EW2880U 28-Inch 4K IPS USB-C Monitor

BenQ EW2880U 28-Inch 4K IPS USB-C Monitor

The BenQ EW2880U is a 28-inch entertainment monitor built around a 4K UHD IPS panel with 3840 x 2160 resolution, HDRi image processing and a 90 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut. USB-C with 60 W power delivery, treVolo speakers and a remote control minimise cables and separate equipment.

Key features

• 28-inch IPS panel with 3840 x 2160 4K UHD resolution at 60 Hz
• 90 percent DCI-P3 gamut with 10-bit colour (8-bit plus FRC)
• HDRi technology that adapts HDR images to the room light
• USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 60 W power delivery
• Built-in treVolo 2 x 3 W speakers and a remote control
• Brightness Intelligence, Low Blue Light and flicker-free eye care

Picture quality

The IPS panel gives 178 degree viewing angles horizontally and vertically, so the image holds its colour and contrast when viewed off centre. Typical brightness is 300 nits with a 1000:1 native contrast ratio, response time is 5 ms grey-to-grey, and the panel displays 1.07 billion colours. At 28 inches, 4K resolution produces fine text and detailed images with room on screen for several windows side by side, while operating-system scaling keeps text comfortable. An anti-glare finish limits reflections during daytime use.

HDRi and colour modes

HDRi is BenQ’s intelligent HDR processing: a built-in sensor reads the ambient light in the room and the monitor adjusts the HDR image’s brightness, contrast and colour saturation to suit, rather than applying one fixed HDR tone map. The monitor accepts HDR10 signals, and dedicated Cinema HDRi and Game HDRi modes tune the processing for film and for games, where Game HDRi is intended to reveal detail in dark scenes without washing out the rest of the picture. A 24p frame rate mode presents film at its native cadence. M-Book mode matches the colour of a connected MacBook display, and an ePaper mode gives a softer, print-like view for long reading sessions.

Connections

Two HDMI 2.0 inputs and one DisplayPort 1.4 input cover consoles, media players and computers, and the USB-C port carries video through DisplayPort Alt Mode, data and up to 60 W of power delivery, so a compatible laptop connects and charges with a single cable. Adaptive-Sync, including AMD FreeSync support, smooths variable frame rates from a PC within the 40 to 60 Hz range. A headphone jack handles private listening, and settings are managed from the on-screen display or the supplied remote control.

Sound, stand and eye care

The treVolo speaker system, with two 3 W drivers and preset sound modes, is a step above the token speakers fitted to most monitors and is genuinely usable for film, calls and casual music. The stand adjusts for tilt, swivel and 100 mm of height, and the panel can be removed for a 100 x 100 mm VESA mount. Brightness Intelligence adjusts screen brightness and colour temperature to the room, and the flicker-free backlight with Low Blue Light modes reduces eye strain over long sessions.

As a single screen for a laptop-based desk, the EW2880U combines a sharp 4K IPS image, room-aware HDR, one-cable USB-C connection and unusually capable built-in sound in one tidy package.
