AKG Lyra Ultra-HD, Four Capsule, Multi-Capture Mode, USB-C Condenser Microphone For Calling, Recording And Streaming, Web Conferencing & VOIP

AKG Lyra Ultra-HD USB Microphone

The AKG Lyra is a USB-C condenser microphone built around a four-capsule array that offers four selectable pickup patterns — a design that lets one microphone cover solo podcasting, two-person interviews, stereo music recording and room capture. It records at up to 24-bit / 192 kHz, carries AKG’s studio heritage into a plug-and-play USB format, and needs nothing but a computer, tablet or phone to start working.

The four capture modes are the heart of it. Front mode is a cardioid pattern for a single voice. Front + Back adds the rear for face-to-face interviews. Tight Stereo and Wide Stereo use the array for instruments and ensembles with narrower or broader images. On the microphone itself sit the controls that matter mid-session: pattern selection, headphone volume, microphone gain and a mute — with a zero-latency headphone output for monitoring what the microphone hears, not what the software returns.

One microphone, four jobs

Most USB microphones fix you into cardioid forever. The Lyra’s array means the podcast duo records on one microphone, the guitarist records a genuine stereo image, and the solo streamer uses the focused front pattern — all with the same unit. For creators whose formats change, that flexibility replaces two or three single-purpose microphones.

Sound and setup

AKG voices the Lyra with the clarity its studio condensers are known for, and the 24-bit/192 kHz conversion exceeds what any delivery format requires, leaving headroom for processing. Setup is a single USB-C cable; the microphone presents itself as a standard audio device to macOS, Windows, iOS and Android. The weighted base and yoke keep it stable on a desk, and it can be mounted on a stand for closer vocal work.

Who it suits

Podcasters who record both solo and in pairs, musicians recording stereo instruments at a desk, streamers who want AKG clarity without an interface, and anyone whose recording format is not fixed. If you will only ever record one voice in cardioid, simpler microphones exist; if your formats vary, the Lyra is the efficient answer.

Four patterns, studio-grade conversion and genuine AKG voicing make the Lyra one of the most versatile USB microphones in its class.

Ownership notes

Register the Lyra with AKG to keep firmware and support in reach, and store it on its stand rather than loose in a drawer — the yoke and base make a stable home on the desk. The Lyra rewards experimentation: record the same passage in each pattern when you first own it, and the right mode for every later format becomes instinct. Few pieces of studio gear teach as much about microphones while doing their day job.
