Bowers & Wilkins PI7 S2 Midnight Blue True Wireless Earbuds

Bowers & Wilkins Pi7 S2 Midnight Blue True Wireless Earbuds

The Bowers & Wilkins Pi7 S2 in Midnight Blue is the flagship true wireless earbud in the Bowers & Wilkins range, built around the same two-way drive unit thinking the company applies to its loudspeakers. Each earbud combines a 9.2mm dynamic driver with a dedicated balanced armature driver, each with its own amplifier, and connects to the source with a true 24-bit audio link. Adaptive noise cancellation, a charging case that can retransmit audio from wired sources, and support for aptX Adaptive complete a specification aimed at listeners who treat earbuds as their main system.

Key Features

• Two-way drivers: 9.2mm dynamic plus balanced armature in each earbud
• Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX Adaptive and true 24-bit audio connection
• Adaptive active noise cancellation with three microphones per earbud
• Charging case retransmits audio from USB-C and 3.5mm wired sources
• Up to 5 hours per charge, plus 16 hours held in the case
• IP54-rated earbuds with wireless and USB-C case charging

Two-Way Sound, Properly Amplified

Splitting the work between a dynamic driver for bass and midrange and a balanced armature for high frequencies lets each unit work in the range it handles best, and high-performance DSP keeps the two integrated. With a compatible source, aptX Adaptive adjusts bit rate to conditions while preserving the 24-bit connection, and aptX HD, aptX Classic, AAC and SBC are also supported for wider device compatibility. The result is an earbud that rewards good recordings rather than flattening them.

Adaptive Noise Cancellation and Calls

Three microphones in each earbud feed the adaptive noise cancellation and the call system. Cancellation adjusts to the environment, whether that is an aircraft cabin, a train or a busy street, and the microphone array keeps voice pickup clear for calls and meetings. Fit still matters: the supplied small, medium and large ear tips should be tried properly, because the seal decides both bass weight and how hard the cancellation has to work.

The Case That Plays Wired Sources

The Pi7 S2 case does more than charge. Connect it to a wired source with the supplied 3.5mm to USB-C cable, such as an in-flight entertainment system or an older player, and it retransmits that audio wirelessly to the earbuds. The case charges over USB-C or on a wireless charging pad, supports fast charging with 15 minutes giving around 2 hours of playback, and holds an additional 16 hours beyond the earbuds’ own 5 hours.

Everyday Details

Each earbud weighs 7 grams and is rated IP54 against dust and splashes, so rain and workouts are not a concern. The Midnight Blue finish is one of three Pi7 S2 colours and changes nothing under the surface: drivers, codecs, battery and case functions are identical across the range. The Bowers & Wilkins Music app handles setup, noise control settings and firmware updates.

Controls on each earbud handle playback, calls and listening modes without reaching for the phone, and the close in-ear fit places the drivers near the ear canal, which helps the balanced armature’s detail survive noisy environments even before the cancellation is switched on.
