Edifier HECATE GX Gaming Headset (Grey)

Edifier HECATE GX Gaming Headset (Grey)

The Edifier HECATE GX is a wired gaming headset from Edifier’s HECATE gaming line, and this listing is for the grey finish. It is built around 50 mm titanium diaphragm drivers with Hi-Res Audio certification and 96 kHz / 24-bit decoding over its digital connections, aiming at the two things competitive and casual gaming both depend on: clear positional detail in the game sound and a voice channel that teammates can understand. A retractable dual-microphone system with environmental noise cancellation handles voice, RGB lighting rings mark out the gaming styling, and three connection options, USB-C, USB and 3.5 mm, let one headset move between PC, console and mobile devices.

Drivers and decoding

The 50 mm titanium diaphragm drivers are the core of the GX. Titanium-coated diaphragms are stiff and light, which helps them track fast transients such as footsteps, reloads and distant effects that carry positional information in a game mix. Edifier’s published specification lists a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with sensitivity of 97 dB and a 32 ohm impedance that any of the supported connections can drive comfortably. The built-in decoding runs at 96 kHz / 24-bit over the USB connections, keeping the digital-to-analogue conversion inside the headset rather than relying on a phone or controller’s output stage. Two sound modes adjust the tuning for its two main jobs: game mode emphasises the detail and positioning cues, while music mode gives a more conventional balance for listening between sessions.

Microphone and communication

Voice is handled by a retractable microphone design with dual-microphone environmental noise cancellation, supported by a noise-cancelling chip that works to separate the player’s voice from keyboard clicks, fan noise and room sound before it reaches the team channel. Retracting the microphone into the earcup keeps it protected and out of the way when the headset is used for music or media on the move. Microphone sensitivity is quoted at -38 dB, a typical figure for close-talking gaming microphones, and correct positioning of the retracted boom near the corner of the mouth makes a clear difference to how intelligible callouts are for other players.

Connections and compatibility

Few headsets cover as many hosts as the GX. The USB-C cable suits modern laptops, tablets and phones, the USB connection is the standard route for desktop PCs and supports the headset’s full digital feature set including decoding, modes and lighting, and the 3.5 mm connection covers games controllers, the Nintendo Switch in handheld mode and any device with a headphone jack. Edifier lists compatibility across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and mobile devices using these three routes. Note that features powered by the digital connection, such as the 96 kHz decoding and RGB lighting, apply when the headset is used over USB, while the 3.5 mm connection provides audio in the conventional analogue way.

Comfort and controls

At 345 g with large plush earcups and a padded headband in leatherette, the GX is designed to stay comfortable through long sessions, distributing pressure evenly rather than clamping tightly. Controls sit on the earcup, including the rolling volume dial that can be adjusted without looking away from the screen, along with controls for the microphone, lighting and sound mode. The grey finish of this version keeps the styling comparatively understated for a gaming headset, so it sits as comfortably on a work desk or in video calls as it does in a gaming setup, where the same clarity that serves game audio also serves meetings and media.
