JBL Tune 680NC Wireless On-Ear Headphones with Adaptive Noise Cancelling (Black)

JBL Tune 680NC Wireless On-Ear Headphones (Black)

The JBL Tune 680NC is a lightweight on-ear headphone built for people who move between a desk, a commute and everything in between. Its headline feature is Adaptive Noise Cancelling, which adjusts the level of cancellation to the noise around you instead of applying one fixed setting everywhere. At just 161 g, with soft on-ear cushions and a padded headband, it is designed to stay comfortable through long listening sessions, and it folds flat when the day is done.

Battery life is the other standout figure. JBL rates music playback at up to 76 hours with Bluetooth on and noise cancelling off, and up to 50 hours with cancelling switched on. Talk time reaches up to 45 hours with cancelling off.

• Bluetooth 6.0 with multi-point connection for two devices
• Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair for quick setup
• Speed charge: 5 minutes adds up to 5 hours of playback
• Smart Ambient with Ambient Aware, TalkThru and VoiceAware
• Lightweight 161 g frame that folds flat for carrying

Noise cancelling and awareness, balanced

Adaptive Noise Cancelling works continuously against the low, steady noise of trains, buses, air conditioning and office hum, so you can listen at lower, safer volumes. When you need the outside world back, Smart Ambient offers two useful modes. Ambient Aware lets surrounding sound through at a controlled level, which helps at stations and on streets. TalkThru drops the music and lifts voices, so a short conversation does not require removing the headphones.

Sound shaped to your hearing

The JBL Headphones app adds Personi-Fi 3.0, which builds a personal hearing profile and shapes playback around it. You can also adjust the equaliser directly or pick a preset, and manage your Smart Ambient settings from the same place. With 32 ohm impedance and 98 dB sensitivity, phones, laptops and tablets drive it easily without a separate amplifier.

Battery, charging and wired listening

A full charge takes about 2 hours from empty through USB-C, and the 690 mAh lithium-ion battery is sized for the long playback figures quoted above. If the battery does run flat, listening does not have to stop: the box includes a USB Type-C to analogue 3.5 mm cable, 1.2 m long, so you can continue in wired mode. Four built-in microphones handle calls and voice control, with a microphone sensitivity of -38 dBV/Pa keeping speech clear in moderate noise.

Fit and everyday handling

The on-ear cushions sit on the ear rather than around it, keeping the whole headphone compact, and the ear cups measure 71 mm across with a shallow 17 mm depth. Multi-point connection keeps a phone and a laptop paired at once, so a call can interrupt a video without any re-pairing. In Black, the Tune 680NC keeps a clean, understated finish that suits work calls as well as travel.

For listeners who want effective adaptive cancelling, very long battery life and a light on-ear fit in one package, the Tune 680NC covers the daily brief thoroughly: strong bass-led sound, thoughtful ambient modes, fast pairing on Android and Windows, and a wired fallback when the battery finally runs down.
