Marshall Major V On-Ear Headphones – Black

Marshall Major V On-Ear Headphones – Black

The Marshall Major V in black is the fifth generation of Marshall’s on-ear headphone line: a foldable, closed-back Bluetooth headphone built around custom-tuned 40 mm dynamic drivers and the Marshall signature sound — warm bass, detailed mids and crisp highs, tuned to reduce distortion so music stays clear at volume. Its headline figure is battery life: more than 100 hours of wireless playtime between charges, the longest Marshall has put in a headphone, with a 15-minute quick charge returning around 15 hours of playback.

Controls are physical and glove-friendly: a multi-directional control knob handles playback and volume, and the customisable M-button gives one-press access to Spotify Tap, your EQ settings or your voice assistant through the Marshall Bluetooth app. A built-in microphone covers calls, and when the battery finally runs down — or a source has no Bluetooth — the supplied 3.5 mm cord keeps the music playing.

Sound and drivers

The 40 mm dynamic drivers are rated from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz with 106 dB SPL sensitivity (100 mV at 1 kHz) and 32-ohm impedance — an easy load that phones, laptops and portable players drive without an amplifier. Marshall tunes the Major line for the music its amplifiers are famous for: present, punchy low end, forward guitars and vocals, and treble kept crisp rather than soft. The on-ear, closed-back fit adds passive isolation by sealing against the ear, and through the app you can adjust the EQ if you prefer a flatter or heavier presentation.

Battery life that changes the habit

At over 100 hours per charge, the Major V turns headphone charging from a daily or weekly task into an occasional one — weeks of commuting, workdays or long-haul travel on a single charge. Quick charging over USB-C rescues a flat battery fast, and Qi wireless charging means the headphones can top up by resting on a charging pad. Battery preservation options in the app help protect long-term capacity, which matters on a product designed to be charged this rarely.

Controls, calls and connections

The multi-directional knob is the Major’s signature control: push it in different directions for volume, track skipping, power and pairing, all by feel. The M-button adds a programmable shortcut, set in the Marshall Bluetooth app. Bluetooth 5.3 supports SBC, AAC and the LC3 codec, is ready for Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast sharing as that ecosystem rolls out, and holds multipoint connections to two devices at once — a laptop and a phone, for example — across a typical 10-metre range. A built-in microphone and remote handle calls and playback from the headphones.

Build and daily life

The Major V folds flat and collapses inward, is built ruggedly for being thrown in a bag, and uses recycled plastic for 86 percent of its plastic content. At 186 g with on-ear cushions, it is light enough for long sessions while staying secure on the move. In black, it keeps the line’s unmistakable Marshall styling — textured finish, script logo and brass-toned details — in its most understated colourway.
