Sony WH-CH710N Wireless Headphone (Black)

The Sony WH-CH710N is a wireless over-ear headphone with noise cancelling, finished here in Black. It is a closed, dynamic design built around a 30 mm dome driver with a neodymium magnet, and it uses Sony’s Dual Noise Sensor technology together with Automatic AI Noise Cancelling to adapt its cancelling to the environment around you. At approximately 223 g it is a light headphone for daily use, and the earcups swivel flat so it packs more easily into a bag. A detachable headphone cable is supplied for wired listening, including when the battery is empty.

Sound performance

Sony rates the frequency response at 7 Hz to 20,000 Hz in wired operation, and 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz over Bluetooth at 44.1 kHz sampling. Supported codecs are SBC and AAC. When connected by cable, impedance is 72 ohms with the unit turned on and 33 ohms with it turned off, and sensitivity is 94 dB/mW powered on and 100 dB/mW powered off. The 30 mm driver delivers a clear, balanced presentation suited to everyday playlists, podcasts and video, and the closed-back cups help keep your listening private while supporting the work of the noise cancelling system.

Noise cancelling and ambient sound

Two microphones, one feed-forward and one feedback, feed the Dual Noise Sensor system, which samples ambient noise and applies cancelling accordingly. Automatic AI Noise Cancelling analyses the wearing conditions and surrounding environment and selects a suitable cancelling profile, which is useful when moving between a quiet room, a street and public transport. A dedicated switch turns noise cancelling on or off, and Ambient Sound mode passes external sound through so you can hear announcements, traffic or a conversation without removing the headphones.

Comfort and everyday design

The WH-CH710N uses soft, oval-shaped earpads designed to sit comfortably around the ears, with an adjustable headband that uses metal sliders to hold its setting. The swivelling earcups fold flat against the headband, which makes the headphones easier to store and carry. Controls are physical buttons on the earcup for power, volume, playback and calls, which are simple to find by touch. A built-in microphone supports hands-free calling, and voice assistant access is available through the connected smartphone.

Battery and connectivity

The built-in lithium-ion battery provides up to 35 hours of continuous music playback with Bluetooth on and noise cancelling on, rising to up to 45 hours with noise cancelling off, and a standby time of up to 200 hours with noise cancelling off. A full charge takes approximately 7 hours over USB, and the quick charge function adds about 60 minutes of playback from roughly 10 minutes of charging. Bluetooth 5.0 gives a line-of-sight range of about 10 metres with A2DP, AVRCP, HFP and HSP profiles, and NFC allows one-touch pairing with compatible devices. The supplied detachable cable is single-sided and approximately 1.2 m long.

For commuters and office listeners who want Sony noise cancelling, long battery life and a light, fold-flat frame without unnecessary complexity, the WH-CH710N in Black covers the essentials in a straightforward package.
