Beyerdynamic TG V35 S Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone

Beyerdynamic TG V35 S Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone

The Beyerdynamic TG V35 S is a handheld dynamic vocal microphone from the Touring Gear series, built as a dependable all-round microphone for singers, presenters, DJs and speakers working in rehearsal rooms and on live stages. The S in the name marks the version fitted with an on/off switch, so the performer holding the microphone can mute it directly between songs, announcements or programme items without relying on the mixing desk. Its supercardioid pickup pattern and natural Beyerdynamic voicing are aimed at one practical goal: a clear, present voice that sits in a live mix without extensive equalisation at the desk.

Pickup pattern and feedback control

A supercardioid pattern concentrates sensitivity in front of the microphone and rejects sound arriving from the sides and rear more strongly than a standard cardioid design. On a live stage that behaviour is valuable twice over. It keeps spill from nearby instruments and monitors out of the vocal channel, and it raises the level available before feedback, which matters in smaller venues where the singer often stands close to the loudspeakers. Beyerdynamic shapes that pattern with its Sound Channeling Technology, using precisely tuned acoustic delay lines and attenuation elements inside the microphone to control how sound reaches the capsule. Good microphone technique still counts: singing close and on axis gives the fullest sound, and monitor loudspeakers should be placed in the pattern’s rejection zone rather than directly in front of the singer.

Sound character and handling

The TG V35 S is voiced for a natural, detailed vocal sound rather than an exaggerated one, so voices come through recognisably and speech stays intelligible for presenters and hosts. The stated frequency response of 30 to 18,000 Hz close to the source, narrowing to 55 to 18,000 Hz measured at one metre, reflects how a stage dynamic behaves in real use: full at working distance, lighter as the singer moves away, which also helps keep low-frequency stage rumble out of the mix. As a dynamic microphone it tolerates the high sound pressure levels of close, loud singing without the fragility concerns of a condenser, and it needs no power supply of any kind. The high output level Beyerdynamic specifies for this model also means even a simple mixer preamplifier can drive it comfortably.

Connection and everyday use

Connection is a standard balanced 3-pin XLR output with a nominal impedance of 600 ohms, so the TG V35 S works with the microphone inputs found on mixers, powered speakers with microphone channels, audio interfaces and stage boxes, using any standard XLR microphone cable. The supplied MKV 108 clamp mounts it on a microphone stand for podium, DJ booth or hands-free use, and the storage bag protects the grille and finish in a gig bag between events. The robust Touring Gear construction is intended for repeated handling, transport and stand mounting rather than careful studio storage, which suits schools, houses of worship, rental kits, rehearsal spaces and working bands as much as individual singers.

As a first serious stage microphone or a reliable spare in the kit bag, the TG V35 S keeps the formula simple: a rugged dynamic capsule, a tight supercardioid pattern for feedback control, a practical on/off switch and a natural vocal sound that needs little work at the desk.
