Description

Godox XMic10L Condenser Microphone

The Godox XMic10L is a large-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone with an XLR output, published in Godox’s audio catalogue as the XLR partner to its AI2C audio interface. Its capsule uses a 25mm gilded diaphragm, the gold plating protecting the transducer surface against corrosion and humidity, and the body is all-metal with a double-layered grille for clearer audio and better rejection of handling and environmental interference. It is an analogue studio microphone: there is no USB output on this model, and it requires 48V phantom power from an interface, mixer or recorder.

The published figures describe a proper studio instrument. Sensitivity is -36dB plus or minus 2dB (0dB = 1V/Pa at 1kHz), maximum sound pressure level is 140dB at 1kHz with 1 percent THD, and the signal-to-noise ratio is 75dB A-weighted, with an equivalent noise level of 16dB. Frequency bandwidth is 20Hz to 20kHz within plus or minus 3dB. Internal impedance is 50 ohms against a rated load impedance of 1000 ohms, and the microphone draws 3mA from the phantom supply, all standard values that behave predictably with ordinary audio interfaces.

Key features

  • Large-diaphragm condenser with 25mm gilded diaphragm
  • Cardioid polar pattern, highly directional toward the front
  • XLR output for interfaces, mixers and recorders
  • Maximum SPL of 140dB for loud sources without distortion
  • Signal-to-noise ratio of 75dB (A-weighted), equivalent noise 16dB
  • Rugged all-metal construction with double-layered grille
  • Professional suspension shock mount included in the model’s package

Why cardioid, why large diaphragm

A cardioid condenser concentrates on the sound in front of it and rejects sound arriving from the sides and rear, which is what keeps a voice prominent and room reflections down in an untreated or lightly treated space. The large diaphragm brings the sensitivity and low-noise character that make condensers the default choice for vocals, voiceover, podcasting and acoustic instruments: quiet details and the texture of a voice are captured rather than lost. Position the XMic10L on its shock mount, keep the source on axis and reasonably close, and the recording will sit forward in a mix with little work.

Headroom for real sources

The 140dB maximum SPL is not a number that matters for speech, but it decides whether the same microphone can move from a podcast desk to a guitar amplifier, a drum kit or a loud singer without padding or distortion. Combined with the 75dB signal-to-noise ratio, the XMic10L covers quiet narration and loud instruments with one capsule, which is the practical definition of a studio workhorse.

Setup and pairing

Connect the XMic10L with a balanced XLR cable to any input that supplies 48V phantom power: a USB audio interface, a mixer, or a field recorder with XLR inputs. Godox designed it to match its AI2C two-channel interface, which offers XLR combo inputs with selectable phantom power, but nothing about the microphone is proprietary. At 52 x 151mm and 416g net weight, it is a standard side-address studio format that fits ordinary microphone stands and boom arms, with the suspension shock mount isolating it from desk thumps and stand-borne vibration.

If you record voice or instruments through an XLR interface and want a large-diaphragm cardioid condenser with published, credible studio figures, the Godox XMic10L is that microphone.
