The Shure BLX14/CVL is a complete presenter wireless system built around three parts that work as one: the CVL lavalier microphone, the BLX1 bodypack transmitter and the BLX4 tabletop receiver. It is made for people whose job is to be heard clearly while moving freely — presenters, lecturers, teachers, trainers and worship leaders. Instead of holding a microphone or staying behind a lectern, the speaker clips the small CVL microphone to a collar, lapel or tie, slips the bodypack onto a belt or into a pocket, and talks. The system handles the rest, from finding a clear channel to delivering a clean balanced output to a mixer or powered speaker.

The CVL lavalier microphone

The CVL is an electret condenser lavalier with a cardioid, unidirectional pickup pattern, which means it concentrates on the voice in front of it and rejects a good deal of the room noise and feedback-prone sound arriving from the sides and rear. Shure specifies a frequency response of 60 Hz to 12,000 Hz for the microphone, a range centred on the speech band where intelligibility lives. Its output level of -43.5 dBV/Pa and 72 dB signal-to-noise ratio give the bodypack a healthy, quiet signal to transmit. The microphone weighs just 25 g, connects through a 1.3 m cable fitted with a TA4F connector, and is supplied with a clip and windscreen, so it sits discreetly on clothing and stays put while the presenter moves, gestures and turns.

BLX1 bodypack and BLX wireless link

The BLX1 bodypack is a moulded ABS unit measuring 110 x 64 x 21 mm and weighing 75 g without batteries. Its adjustable gain range of 26 dB lets the user match the input to a quiet or projecting voice, and its 1 MΩ input impedance suits both the CVL and instrument sources. The transmitter output is 10 mW typical, and the system as a whole delivers a 100 dB A-weighted dynamic range with total harmonic distortion of 0.5 percent typical, across an audio frequency response of 50 to 15,000 Hz. Two AA alkaline batteries run the bodypack for up to 14 hours, which covers a full day of teaching, conferences or services without a mid-session battery change.

BLX4 receiver and setup

The BLX4 is a compact tabletop receiver, 40 x 188 x 103 mm, with internal antennas and clear group and channel displays. Setup is deliberately simple: run the one-touch QuickScan and the receiver finds an open channel, then set the bodypack to the same group and channel. On the back panel, a balanced XLR output at 200 Ω suits a mixer microphone input, while the 6.35 mm output at 50 Ω works with instrument-level inputs. RF sensitivity of -105 dBm and image rejection above 50 dB help the link stay stable in real rooms full of other electronics. The receiver runs from the supplied external power supply.

Where it fits

This system suits classrooms, lecture halls, boardrooms, training spaces, houses of worship and small auditoriums where one presenter speaks at a time and reliability matters more than complexity. Because up to 12 compatible systems can run per band, a venue can add handheld or headset BLX systems for panellists and performers alongside it. It is an analogue wireless system, so it needs no network configuration, pairing software or firmware management.
