The ATEM Television Studio 4K8 is a self-contained Ultra HD live production switcher with a built-in broadcast control panel: 8 12G-SDI camera inputs, 10 12G-SDI auxiliary outputs, built-in streaming, a master recorder, multiview monitoring and a full Fairlight audio mixer in one unit. It works in HD and Ultra HD standards up to 2160p60, with re-sync and format conversion on every input so cameras and computer sources do not need to match perfectly before they reach the desk.

This is the base 4K8 model. It records the programme to external USB-C media and streams directly over Ethernet; it does not include the 2 TB internal storage fitted to the separate ATEM Television Studio 4K8 2TB variant. Plan media accordingly when specifying a recording workflow.

Switching and effects

The effects block is the full ATEM Television Studio set: an upstream keyer complement with four Advanced Chroma Keyers for green-screen work, downstream keyers for bugs and graphics, SuperSource for multi-box layouts, and two digital video effects for picture-in-picture and graphic wipes. Two media players feed stills and graphics from the media pool, and macros and ATEM Software Control on Mac and Windows extend the panel for larger productions and automation.

Audio for broadcast and streaming

Audio inputs combine embedded SDI audio from all eight inputs with 2 balanced XLR analogue inputs, stereo RCA inputs and a 32-channel MADI input for a separate sound desk or stage feed. Outputs provide 16 assignable SDI channels and a 64-channel MADI output, alongside analogue monitoring. The internal Fairlight mixer handles level, EQ and dynamics per source, so a complete programme mix can be produced inside the switcher when no separate audio console is available.

Streaming, recording and monitoring

A hardware streaming engine sends the programme directly to online platforms over the Ethernet connection, and the master recorder writes the programme to a USB-C disk in broadcast formats. Multiview shows all sources, preview and programme with audio meters and tally on one SDI or HDMI display, and the two USB-C webcam outputs let conferencing and streaming software see the programme as a standard webcam source at 720p or 1080p.

Building a 4K8 studio

Connect 12G-SDI cameras for single-cable Ultra HD, use the ten auxiliary outputs for recorders and clean feeds, and network control and streaming through the built-in 10G switch. For ISO recording or internal storage, compare the dedicated ISO and 2TB variants.
