Description
BenQ LH650 Laser Projector: 4,000-Lumen Full HD Projection for Meeting Rooms
The BenQ LH650 is a Full HD laser projector designed for meeting rooms, classrooms and shared workspaces where the projector is switched on every day and expected to work without fuss. Its laser light source produces 4,000 ANSI lumens at a native resolution of 1920 x 1080, and it removes the lamp changes that interrupt lamp-based projectors in regular service. BenQ rates the light source life at up to 20,000 hours, so in a typical meeting room the LH650 can run for years of daily use before light-source service becomes a consideration. The DLP projection system, 3,000,000:1 full-on/full-off contrast ratio and 92% coverage of the Rec. 709 colour space are aimed at readable text, accurate charts and natural-looking video in rooms that cannot be fully darkened.
Key features
- 4,000 ANSI lumens of brightness for lit meeting rooms and classrooms
- Native 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution with DLP technology
- Laser light source rated for up to 20,000 hours, with no lamp replacements
- 3,000,000:1 contrast ratio (FOFO) and 92% Rec. 709 colour coverage
- USB-C input with DisplayPort Alt Mode for single-cable laptop connection
- 1.15 to 1.5 throw ratio with 1.3x optical zoom for flexible placement
- Low 8.3 ms input lag at 1080p/120 Hz and HDR10 and HLG support
Picture performance in real rooms
Brightness alone does not make a presentation readable, so the LH650 combines its 4,000 lumens with DLP’s high fill factor, which keeps the grid between pixels fine and text edges clean at normal viewing distances. The 30-bit display colour (1.07 billion colours) and Rec. 709 coverage keep presentation graphics and video close to the colours the content was made in. Picture modes include Bright, Presentation, Spreadsheet, Video Conference, HDR10 and HLG modes and two user memories, so the same projector can be set up differently for a numbers-heavy review and a video call. Input lag of 8.3 ms at 1080p/120 Hz keeps the projected image responsive when a presenter is driving the screen directly.
Laser light source and running costs
A laser source reaches full brightness quickly, holds its output consistently and does not need the warm-up, cool-down and periodic replacement cycle of a lamp. BenQ’s SmartEco mode adjusts light output to the content to save power, and the sealed, IP5X-rated light engine keeps dust out of the optical path, which is what protects brightness and colour over the projector’s life in classrooms and offices where air quality varies. Typical power consumption is modest for this brightness class, and standby draw is below 0.5W.
Connections and everyday use
Two HDMI 2.0b inputs with HDCP 2.2 accept sources up to 4K UHD for scaling to the native 1080p image. The USB-C port carries a DisplayPort signal from a compatible laptop over one cable and can supply 5V/1A power. USB-A ports provide power for accessories and support the optional BenQ wireless dongle for cable-free presenting, and RS232 control allows the LH650 to be integrated with room control systems. A built-in 10W speaker covers speech and video sound in smaller rooms without external audio. The 1.3x zoom and 1.15 to 1.5 throw ratio place a 100-inch image from roughly 2.6 metres, and 2D keystone correction (vertical auto, plus or minus 30 degrees; horizontal plus or minus 30 degrees) plus corner adjustment help square the image when the projector cannot sit perfectly on axis.
Size, noise and installation
At 303.5 x 112.4 x 224.7 mm and 2.9 kg, the LH650 is compact enough for a table in a huddle room or a ceiling mount in a boardroom. Fan noise is rated at 34 dB in normal mode and 28 dB in Eco mode, low enough that it does not compete with speech in a meeting. Operating temperature range is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius.
For organisations that present every day, the LH650’s value is in the combination of brightness, Full HD detail and a laser light source that removes routine lamp maintenance from the facilities list. It is a workhorse projector specified for the rooms where most business projection actually happens.
