BenQ V5010I 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector

BenQ V5010i 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector

The BenQ V5010i is a 4K ultra short throw projector for living rooms and home cinemas, using an RGB laser light source to produce 2,500 ANSI lumens at a 0.25:1 throw ratio, so a 100 to 120-inch image comes from a unit placed directly below the screen. BenQ’s CinematicColor tuning covers 98 percent of the DCI-P3 gamut and 100 percent of Rec.709, and the projector is factory calibrated for accurate colour. A 40-watt built-in audio system and the QS02 Android TV dongle make it a complete television replacement in a single low cabinet-width box.

Key features

• 4K UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 with 30-bit colour, 1.07 billion colours
• RGB laser light source rated for 20,000 hours in Normal and Eco modes
• 2,500 ANSI lumens with a 2,500,000:1 contrast ratio using light source dimming
• 98% DCI-P3 and 100% Rec.709 colour coverage with factory calibration
• 0.25:1 ultra short throw fixed lens for 100 to 120-inch images
• 40 W audio system with two 5 W speakers and two 15 W woofers, eARC and Dolby Atmos passthrough

Colour and picture modes

The RGB laser engine generates its primaries directly, which underpins the wide DCI-P3 coverage used by HDR film content. HDR support covers HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, and the picture mode list shows the cinema intent: Cinema (Rec.709), FILMMAKER MODE and its HDR variant, ISF Day and ISF Night modes for calibrated setups, plus Bright, Bright Cinema, Living Room, Game and HDR Game modes. Light source dimming drives the high dynamic contrast figure while keeping black levels convincing in dark scenes, and 3D playback is supported for compatible discs and glasses.

Gaming performance

Input lag is rated at 17.9 ms for 4K at 60 Hz and 1080p at 60 Hz, dropping to 13 ms at 1080p 120 Hz and 5 ms at 1080p 240 Hz, so high-refresh PC and console play stays responsive even on a screen far larger than a monitor. The third HDMI input is an HDMI 2.1 port that accepts 4K 120 Hz signals and downscales them to 1080p 120 Hz output, and Auto Low Latency Mode switches the projector into game settings when a console is detected. HDR Game mode keeps tone mapping appropriate for games rather than film.

Sound and smart features

The internal audio system pairs two 5-watt chamber speakers with two 15-watt woofers for 40 watts total, and HDMI eARC passes Dolby Atmos soundtracks out to an external system when one is connected, with an optical S/PDIF output and a 3.5 mm audio output also provided. The supplied QS02 dongle fits the internal HDMI port and runs Google-certified Android TV, including Netflix and voice control, keeping the streaming platform separate from the projector hardware. Bluetooth 5.0 is built in.

Setup and connections

Automatic 2D keystone corrects vertical and horizontal alignment by up to plus or minus 30 degrees, with an 8-point corner fit for fine adjustment, and the projection offset is 123.5 percent. Three external HDMI inputs with HDCP 2.2, three USB Type-A ports, RS232 and a 12 V trigger cover sources and control. Typical power consumption is 150 W, noise is rated at 28 dB in typical use and 26 dB in Eco, and the unit measures 760 x 164 x 358 mm and weighs about 13.2 kg.

The V5010i is aimed at viewers who want calibrated, wide-gamut 4K film images and credible built-in sound from a projector that lives on a sideboard, with gaming latency that does not force a separate display for consoles.
