It pairs Sony’s Z-Phosphor laser light source with the BrightEra 3LCD projection engine, producing detailed images with stable, natural colour. The laser source is rated for up to 20,000 hours of operation without a lamp exchange, and the projector switches on without a lamp warm-up period. At approximately 371 x 100 x 319.3 mm and 5.7 kg, Sony positioned the VPL-CXZ10 as the smallest model in its class at launch, with a flat top surface that sits discreetly when ceiling mounted.

Image quality and colour performance

The 3LCD architecture projects all three primary colours simultaneously, so colour brightness matches white brightness at 5,000 lumens and presentations avoid the colour breakup associated with single-chip designs. Sony rates the contrast ratio (full white to full black) as infinity to one under its measurement method, reflecting the laser source’s ability to modulate output for dark scenes. Keystone correction of plus or minus 30 degrees horizontally and vertically helps square the image when the projector cannot be placed perfectly on axis, and the lens offset of plus 33 percent vertical assists ceiling installations.

Connectivity and integration

Signal inputs comprise two HDMI inputs (INPUT B and INPUT C) with HDCP support, a Mini D-sub 15-pin RGB and component input (INPUT A) with a stereo mini jack audio input, and a composite video phono input sharing audio with INPUT A. A stereo mini jack provides audio output. Control and service connections include the D-sub 9-pin RS-232C REMOTE terminal, an RJ45 LAN port (10BASE-T/100BASE-TX) and a USB Type-A port used for firmware updates. Displayable scanning frequencies run from 15 kHz to 92 kHz horizontal and 48 Hz to 92 Hz vertical.

Operation, noise and power

Acoustic noise is rated at 36 dB in Standard mode, falling to 32 dB and 28 dB in the Middle and Low modes, which keeps the projector unobtrusive during lessons and meetings. Power consumption in Standard mode is 342 W on 100 to 120 V supplies and 326 W on 220 to 240 V supplies, dropping to 0.5 W in Low standby. The specified operating range is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius at 20 to 80 percent humidity, and the air filter cleaning cycle is 1,000 hours in Standard mode.
