Image quality in lit rooms

Sony’s Bright View processing is designed to keep colour vivid when room light cannot be fully controlled, and Reality Creation works on detail and sharpness so text and diagrams stay legible from the back of a room. Contrast is quoted as infinity to one on a full white to full black basis, reflecting the laser’s ability to dim completely on black frames. Intelligent Settings use an ambient light sensor to adapt the picture to the room, which helps in spaces that shift between daylight and evening use. A 1.6x manual zoom and unusually wide vertical lens shift mean the PHZ51 can often replace an older projector on an existing mount without moving the bracket. Keystone correction covers plus or minus 30 degrees horizontally and vertically. Support for 360-degree orientation and a slim chassis of 422 x 129 x 338 mm at 6.8 kg make ceiling, portrait and angled installs workable. Data cloning copies settings to other compatible Sony projectors through a USB memory drive, which shortens multi-room rollouts.

Connections and control

Inputs include two HDMI ports, HDBaseT, VGA, composite video, USB Type A and LAN, with RS-232 for control systems and compatibility with Crestron RoomView and PJLink. A built-in 16-watt monaural speaker handles voice and video sound in a meeting room without external amplification. Auto input select switches to a newly connected active source, and auto power on starts the projector when a connected computer wakes, reducing the small frictions that slow down lessons and meetings.

A laser source removes lamp purchases and the brightness drop that comes with an ageing lamp, and Sony’s anti-dust system with an automatic filter detection approach is intended to extend service intervals.
