ViewSonic LS740HD 5000 Lumens 1080P Laser Projector

ViewSonic LS740HD 5000 Lumens 1080P Laser Projector

The ViewSonic LS740HD is a Full HD laser projector rated at 5,000 ANSI lumens, designed for installed commercial use in boardrooms, classrooms, signage and public venues. Its native resolution is 1920 x 1080, and the laser phosphor light source is built for long operating hours with minimal servicing rather than for occasional home use.

Key features

• 5,000 ANSI lumens: high brightness for rooms with uncontrolled ambient light
• Full HD resolution: native 1920 x 1080 from a 0.65-inch DLP chip
• Laser phosphor source: 20,000 hours in normal mode, 30,000 hours in SuperEco
• IP6X sealed engine: dust-resistant optical design with no filter changes
• 24/7 operation: cooling designed for continuous commercial duty
• 1.3x optical zoom: throw ratio 1.13 to 1.47 for 30 to 300-inch images
• 360-degree and portrait projection: flexible orientation for signage

Brightness and image

Dynamic contrast is quoted at 3,000,000:1, and the projector displays 1.07 billion colours from a 10-bit path. Centre brightness is rated at 5,500 lumens. Signal support runs from VGA up to WUXGA reduced blanking at 1920 x 1200, with HDTV formats up to 1080p, so legacy presentation sources and modern laptops both connect without a scaler. Horizontal frequency coverage is 15 to 102 kHz and vertical scan 24 to 120 Hz. Four-corner correction and horizontal and vertical keystone adjustment of up to 30 degrees help square the image where the mount cannot be perfectly aligned.

Installation and orientation

The lens has a focal length of 16.90 to 21.61 mm, an aperture of F2.43 to F2.78 and a projection offset of 132 percent, with digital zoom from 0.8x to 2.0x for fine size adjustment. A 100-inch image is achieved at about 2.5 metres. Support for 360-degree projection and portrait mode opens up retail, museum and exhibition uses where a conventional landscape ceiling install does not fit the content. The chassis measures 286 x 216 x 129 mm and the projector is light for its brightness class, simplifying ceiling work.

Connections and control

Two HDMI 1.4 inputs with HDCP 1.4 are fitted, plus a 3.5 mm audio output and a USB Type A port that supplies 5 V at 1.5 A, enough to power a wireless HDMI dongle directly from the projector and avoid a separate adapter at the mount. RS-232 provides control system integration. A single built-in 15-watt speaker covers speech and video sound in a typical meeting room, and firmware can be updated over a USB connection from a laptop rather than through a service visit.

Running costs

Typical power consumption is quoted at about 210 W with standby under 0.5 W. The IP6X sealed light engine keeps dust away from the optics, removing filter cleaning from the maintenance schedule, and the laser source removes lamp replacement. Noise is rated at 30 dB in normal mode and 24 dB in Eco. For an estate of rooms, those figures translate into fewer call-outs and a predictable brightness level across semesters or trading years.

The LS740HD suits organisations that need a bright, always-ready Full HD projector for daily or continuous use and want maintenance reduced to a minimum. Size the screen for the room’s light level and confirm the throw distance against the 1.13 to 1.47 range before fixing a mount position.
