The Horizon S Max is the brightest model in XGIMI’s Horizon S lifestyle projector range, producing 3100 ISO lumens from a Dual Light 2.0 light engine that combines tri-colour laser with LED. It projects a 4K UHD image, carries both Dolby Vision and IMAX Enhanced certification, and sits on an integrated gimbal stand that rotates a full 360 degrees and tilts up to 135 degrees, so the picture can land on a wall or swing up to the ceiling without a separate mount. Android TV 11.0 is built in, and Harman Kardon speakers are built into the same enclosure.

Brightness is the point of the Max. At 3100 ISO lumens it holds a large, watchable picture in rooms that are not fully darkened, where the lower-output models in the range would wash out. The Dual Light 2.0 engine covers 110 percent of the BT.2020 colour gamut, supports dynamic contrast up to 1,000,000:1, and is rated for 20,000 hours of use, with certifications covering low blue light and reduced laser speckle for more comfortable long viewing sessions.

Picture performance

The 1.2:1 throw ratio fills screens from 40 to 200 inches, with a 100 inch image from roughly 2.7 metres. Wide colour coverage of 110 percent BT.2020 gives HDR material its saturation headroom, and the format support is comprehensive: Dolby Vision adjusts tone mapping scene by scene, IMAX Enhanced certification covers both the picture and DTS audio presentation of certified content, and HDR10 and HLG cover broadcast and streaming sources. MEMC motion processing smooths fast pans and sport. For gaming, latency drops to around 20 milliseconds in game mode with automatic keystone disabled, and 3D playback is supported in frame packing and side-by-side formats with DLP Link glasses.

ISA 5.0 setup intelligence

XGIMI’s Intelligent Screen Adaptation, in its 5.0 generation here, handles the chores that make portable projectors fiddly. Focus is automatic and continuous, keystone correction is uninterrupted, so moving the projector does not mean waiting for a calibration routine, and the system aligns the image to a screen, avoids obstacles such as light switches and picture frames, and adapts its colour balance to the wall colour when no screen is used. Sound, streaming and connections

Two 12W Harman Kardon speakers provide the built-in sound, with 360 degree surround presentation, DTS-HD, DTS Virtual:X and Dolby Audio decoding, so the projector works on its own for casual viewing and can feed an external system from its HDMI eARC port. That single HDMI input is the main wired video connection, supported by two USB ports; wireless connections run over dual-band Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1. Android TV 11.0 with Google Assistant and Chromecast built in covers the major streaming services through the Play Store, running on a Cortex-A55 processor with 2GB of memory and 64GB of storage.
