Amazon Echo 4th Gen Black

Amazon Echo 4th Gen Black – The Alexa Speaker That Actually Sounds Like One

The fourth-generation Echo is where Amazon’s smart speaker stopped being a voice remote with a speaker attached and became a speaker in its own right. The spherical design houses a 3-inch woofer and dual front-firing tweeters with Dolby processing, giving it the low-end weight and stereo detail that smaller Dots cannot reach. It is also a smart home hub in disguise, with a built-in Zigbee hub and temperature sensor, so it can run a connected home rather than merely talk to one.

Key features

• Premium sound with Dolby processing, 3-inch woofer and dual 0.8-inch tweeters
• Alexa voice control for music, information, calls and routines
• Built-in Zigbee smart home hub – connect compatible lights, locks and sensors directly
• Built-in temperature sensor for climate-based routines
• Spherical design that radiates sound evenly around the room
• Streams from major music services over Wi-Fi, plus Bluetooth playback
• Microphone-off button and multi-layer privacy controls
• Pairs with a second Echo for stereo, or with Fire TV for home theatre audio

Sound first, assistant second

Most smart speakers are bought for the assistant and forgiven for the sound. The Echo 4th Gen inverts that: the woofer-tweeter layout and Dolby processing produce genuine bass and clear vocals at room-filling levels, and Alexa adapts the equalisation to the space. It works as the main speaker in a bedroom, study or kitchen, not just as a bedside utility.

A hub at the centre of the home

The built-in Zigbee hub means compatible bulbs, plugs, locks and sensors pair straight to the Echo without a separate bridge. Voice control then covers lights, scenes and routines, and the temperature sensor lets you trigger fans or air conditioning when a room crosses a threshold you set. It is the quiet infrastructure of a smart home, hidden inside a speaker.

Everyday Alexa, done properly

Timers while cooking, news briefings at breakfast, calls between rooms, announcements across the house, multi-room music with other Echo devices – the routines a household actually uses are all here, driven from a far-field microphone array that hears you over the television. Stereo pairing two units, or linking with a Fire TV for richer TV audio, extends the same speaker rather than replacing it.

If you want one Alexa device that can anchor both your music and your smart home, the Echo 4th Gen is the one built for the job.
