Edifier R2000DB Wireless Bookshelf Speaker (Black)

Edifier R2000DB Powered Bookshelf Speakers (Black)

The Edifier R2000DB is a powered 2.0 bookshelf speaker system in black, built to connect to several sources at once and play without a separate amplifier. Dual RCA line inputs, an optical input and Bluetooth cover a television, a turntable or CD player and a phone simultaneously. Amplification totals RMS 24 W x 2 for treble plus 36 W x 2 for bass, with dynamic range control, driving a 5-inch (132 mm) bass driver and a 25 mm silk dome tweeter in each cabinet. Frequency response is 50 Hz to 20 kHz, signal-to-noise ratio is 85 dBA or higher and channel separation is 45 dB or more.

Key Features

• Powered 2.0 system – no separate amplifier or receiver needed

• 5-inch bass driver and 25 mm silk dome tweeter per cabinet
• Dual RCA, optical and Bluetooth inputs
• Class D amplification with DSP and dynamic range control
• Bass, treble and master volume dials on the active speaker
• Infrared remote with Classic and Dynamic sound modes

Connections for TV, Turntable and Phone

The optical input is the natural route for a television, accepting PCM signals at 44.1, 48 and 96 kHz and keeping the TV, film and game audio in the digital domain until the speaker’s own converter. The two RCA line inputs have sensitivities of 800 mV and 600 mV respectively, which suits pairing a turntable with phono stage and a disc player or streamer at the same time without swapping cables. Bluetooth handles casual listening from phones and laptops, and switching between all of these is a press of the master volume dial on the active cabinet or a button on the remote.

Control From the Cabinet and the Sofa

Control is unusually complete for this class. On the active speaker, a master volume dial that also switches inputs sits alongside dedicated treble and bass dials, so tonal balance can be set for the room and the shelf position rather than accepted as fixed. The included infrared remote adds volume, input selection, mute and standby from the listening position, plus two sound modes: Classic for a flatter presentation and Dynamic for a livelier balance. Distortion is rated at 0.5 percent.

Cabinet and Finish

The wooden enclosure is finished with piano-gloss side panels in this black version, and the cabinet construction works to limit resonance that would otherwise colour the midrange. As a self-contained stereo pair the R2000DB fits desks, sideboards and television stands where a separate amplifier and passive speakers would take more space and wiring.
