Edifier R1280DBs — The All-Input Bookshelf Speaker for Every Room
The Edifier R1280DBs is a feature-packed 42W active bookshelf speaker that covers every connection scenario you can imagine — Bluetooth 5.1 with aptX, optical Toslink, coaxial S/PDIF, AUX, and dual RCA inputs, plus a dedicated subwoofer pre-out for when you are ready to add more bass. This is the speaker that does it all without compromise. Whether you are connecting a smart TV via optical cable, streaming wirelessly from your phone, or building a future-ready home theater setup with a subwoofer, the R1280DBs handles every task with authority. Available in both wood-grain brown and black, it is arguably the most versatile bookshelf speaker under 20000 in India today. Key Features – Optical Toslink Input: A digital optical connection from your TV, soundbar-replacement setup, or Blu-ray player eliminates analog noise and delivers pristine digital audio — an essential input that many bookshelf speakers at this price omit entirely. – Coaxial S/PDIF Input: The second digital input accepts coaxial digital audio from cable boxes, game consoles, and older AV equipment for maximum source compatibility. – Bluetooth 5.1 with aptX: Wireless streaming from phones, tablets, and laptops with near-lossless aptX compression and Bluetooth 5.1 stability. – 42W RMS Total Power: Dual 21W amplifiers deliver room-filling volume with authority, making the R1280DBs suitable for living rooms and larger desktop setups. – Dedicated Subwoofer Pre-Out: A dedicated subwoofer output lets you seamlessly expand your system by adding a powered subwoofer for deeper bass extension — a rare and valuable feature at this price point. – Bass and Treble Controls: Side-panel tone shaping lets you tailor the sound to your room acoustics and listening preferences. – Multiple Analog Inputs: AUX 3.5mm and dual stereo RCA for connecting phones, CD players, turntables, and older audio equipment. Sound Performance
The Edifier R1280DBs delivers confident, full-bodied sound that punches well above its price bracket. At 42W total RMS, it has enough muscle to fill a medium to large living room at comfortable listening levels. The frequency response of 52Hz to 20kHz gives it a deeper bass extension than many competing bookshelf speakers, meaning you actually feel the low-end presence of bass guitar, kick drums, and cinematic soundtracks — not just hear a hint of them. Where the R1280DBs truly shines is in its digital inputs. Connecting a modern 4K TV via the Toslink optical cable delivers noticeably cleaner audio than any analog TV connection, because the optical cable carries a digital signal that bypasses the noisy analog circuitry inside the TV entirely. Movie dialogue becomes crisper, music scores become richer, and the overall soundstage gains clarity and width. The Bluetooth aptX codec adds high-quality wireless streaming to the mix, so switching between TV optical audio and Spotify streaming from your phone is a seamless experience. The dedicated subwoofer pre-out is a forward-thinking feature that means you can start with the R1280DBs alone and add a powered sub later as your budget allows, turning a 2.0 setup into a proper 2.1 home theater system without replacing the main speakers. Design and Build Quality
The Edifier R1280DBs is available in two finishes — classic brown wood-grain and all-black — giving you options to match your furniture and room decor. The MDF enclosure is acoustically solid, with thick panels that resist vibration at higher volumes. The side-panel controls for bass and treble are smooth and well-calibrated, with a center detent that makes it easy to return to flat response. At 146 x 234 x 196mm per cabinet, the R1280DBs is a proper bookshelf size that balances presence and desk-friendliness. The rear panel is neatly organized with all inputs clearly labeled, and the build quality of every jack and connector feels premium. This is a speaker designed to last years of daily use. Connectivity and Compatibility
No other bookshelf speaker in the under-20000 rupee range in India matches the R1280DBs for input variety. Optical Toslink covers modern smart TVs and Blu-ray players. Coaxial S/PDIF covers older digital equipment, cable boxes, and certain game consoles. Bluetooth 5.1 with aptX provides top-quality wireless streaming. AUX 3.5mm connects phones, tablets, and laptops. Dual stereo RCA covers CD players, vinyl turntables (with built-in phono stage), and AV receivers. The subwoofer pre-out means you can add a powered subwoofer in the future without any additional equipment. The active speaker also handles input switching, making it easy to toggle between your TV, phone, and computer with a single control. The R1280DBs is truly a one-speaker solution that grows with your needs. 17,990 Who Is It For?
