JBL Stage 2 260F – The Midsize Stage Tower in White, Engineered in Northridge

The Stage 2 260F is the midsize floorstanding loudspeaker of JBL’s Stage 2 series, finished here in white. Designed at JBL’s Acoustic Engineering Center in Northridge, California, it uses a 2.5-way design: dual 6.5-inch polycellulose ribbed-cone woofers and a 1-inch anodised aluminium dome tweeter loaded in JBL’s next-generation HDI (High-Definition Imaging) waveguide.

The Stage 2 series brings the waveguide technology of JBL’s studio and cinema speakers down to living-room prices, which is why these towers image so precisely. The 260F adds floorstanding scale – deeper bass and higher output than the bookshelf models – plus a dedicated set of Atmos binding posts on top for adding height modules cleanly.

HDI waveguide, explained

The waveguide surrounding the tweeter is shaped using the same mathematics as JBL’s professional monitors. It controls how high frequencies spread, matching the tweeter’s dispersion to the woofers’ at the crossover and keeping the response smooth across a wide listening area. Practically, the centre image stays locked between the speakers, dialogue and vocals hold their position, and the sound changes less as listeners move around the room – the signature of a properly engineered horn, without harshness.

Stereo now, Atmos later

As a stereo pair the 260F covers music full-range for most rooms. As a theatre front, it timbre-matches the Stage 2 centre and surrounds, and the top-mounted Atmos terminals accept JBL’s height modules with the cable run hidden – a thoughtful detail that keeps an Atmos upgrade from becoming a wiring project. Placement and amplification

Start with the pair a short distance from the rear wall, spaced two to three metres apart and angled slightly toward the listening position. The 260F’s controlled waveguide dispersion makes the stereo image forgiving of wide seating, but symmetry still pays. Mainstream AV receivers and integrated amplifiers drive the Stage 2 comfortably; the design’s efficiency means volume is rarely the limit in domestic rooms.
