Klipsch Synergy B-100 Bookshelf Speaker (Black)

Klipsch Synergy B-100 Bookshelf Speakers (Black) – horn-loaded pair for first serious stereo

The Klipsch Synergy B-100 is the bookshelf model in Klipsch’s Synergy Black Label series, sold as a pair and built around the company’s signature horn-loaded tweeter. A 0.75-inch aluminium diaphragm compression driver with Linear Travel Suspension fires through a 90 x 90 Tractrix horn, while a 4-inch high-output IMG woofer handles the midrange and bass. The horn is not decoration: it makes the B-100 unusually efficient, so it plays loud and stays clear on modest amplifier power — the reason it anchors so many first serious stereo and home theatre systems.

The black ash vinyl finish and removable grilles keep the look understated, and the compact cabinet (about 25cm tall) fits shelves, desks and stands in rooms where floorstanders would dominate. Use the pair as stereo fronts, or as surrounds and rears in a Synergy Black Label home theatre that can grow channel by channel.

The horn advantage

Klipsch has loaded its tweeters into horns since 1946 for a simple reason: a horn couples the small tweeter diaphragm to the room’s air more efficiently, raising output while lowering the distortion that comes from driving a bare dome hard. The Tractrix profile controls dispersion evenly across a 90 x 90 pattern, so the B-100 sounds consistent across the sofa rather than only in one sweet spot, and dialogue stays intelligible at low evening volumes — a trait owners notice daily.

IMG woofer and cabinet

The injection-moulded graphite woofer cone is light and rigid, which keeps bass tight and midrange clean instead of thick. A rear-firing port extends the low end to 64Hz — enough for satisfying music playback in small and medium rooms, and an easy handover to a subwoofer in a theatre setup. The cabinet’s compact footprint means stands, a media console or an actual bookshelf are all fair game.

System building

Start with the B-100 pair on a stereo amplifier for music, then reuse them as surrounds when you add a Synergy centre channel and floorstanders later — the series is voiced to match. For gaming and desktop duty they occupy little desk while delivering the scale nearfield monitors often lack.

If you want the Klipsch sound — lively, detailed and efficient — in the smallest, most affordable package the company offers, the Synergy B-100 pair in Black is exactly that, with no amplifier drama and no wasted space.
