Polk Audio Signature Elite ES10 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair)

Polk Audio Signature Elite ES10 Bookshelf Speakers (Pair)

The Polk Audio Signature Elite ES10 is the most compact speaker in the Signature Elite range, supplied as a pair in the standard finish. Each cabinet combines a 4-inch Dynamic Balance mica-reinforced polypropylene woofer with a 1-inch Terylene high-resolution dome tweeter, giving a small speaker that can work as a stereo pair on a desk or shelf, or as surround speakers in a home cinema built around other ES-series models. Its size is the point: it fits where a larger bookshelf speaker will not, without giving up the driver technology and voicing of the range above it.

Signature Elite speakers are Hi-Res Audio certified, and the ES10 carries that brief into a cabinet just 8.4 inches tall. A Dynamically Balanced acoustic array, precision crossover and Power Port bass-enhancing technology are all present in this smallest model, along with a non-resonant MDF cabinet and an anti-diffraction magnetic grille. The compact enclosures suit shelves, stands and brackets in rooms where space is tight. For surround use, a keyhole slot and a threaded insert on the rear allow wall mounting, so the pair can sit at ear height behind or beside the seating without stands.

Key features

• 4-inch Dynamic Balance woofer: Mica-reinforced polypropylene driver for clear midrange and controlled bass from a compact cabinet.
• 1-inch Terylene tweeter: High-resolution dome tweeter with response extending to 40 kHz.
• Power Port technology: Bass-enhancing port design for smoother airflow and cleaner low frequencies.
• Wall-mount ready: Keyhole slot and 1/4 inch-20 threaded insert for wall mounting as surround speakers.
• Anti-diffraction grille: Magnetic grille shaped to minimise sonic interference from the cabinet.
• Gold-plated binding posts: Single pair of five-way binding posts per speaker for a secure cable connection.
• Timbre matched: Voiced to blend with Signature Elite towers, centre channels and subwoofers.

Drivers and cabinet

The 4-inch woofer uses mica reinforcement to stiffen its polypropylene cone, keeping the moving mass controlled so midrange detail survives at low levels and the driver stays composed when a film soundtrack gets busy. The Terylene dome above it is the same tweeter family used across the Signature Elite range, which is why the ES10 can sit behind the listener while ES towers handle the front without an obvious change in treble character. The crossover works at 2,500 Hz, and the MDF cabinet is built to be acoustically quiet, so what reaches the listener is the drivers’ output rather than panel resonance.

Sound performance

As a stereo pair, the ES10 gives an open, intelligible presentation: voices are clear, acoustic instruments keep their separation, and the Power Port helps the small cabinet produce bass with more weight than its dimensions suggest, though a subwoofer remains the natural partner for full-range film playback. Sensitivity is 87 dB and the recommended amplifier range is 20 to 100 watts per channel, with compatibility for 4 and 8 ohm outputs, so most AV receivers and compact stereo amplifiers drive it comfortably. As surrounds, the pair places effects precisely and keeps dialogue in the centre image unobstructed.

Placement and dimensions

Each speaker measures 5.4 inches wide, 8.4 inches high and 6.1 inches deep and weighs 6 lbs, fitting on shelves, desks, stands or wall mounts. On a desk, place the pair equidistant from the seat with a slight toe-in; as surrounds, mount them slightly behind the listening position at or just above ear height using the keyhole slot or threaded insert. Leaving a little space behind the cabinet lets the rear port work as intended, and keeping the magnetic grille on or off is a matter of room preference, as it is designed to be acoustically unobtrusive.

The ES10 is the flexible end of the Signature Elite range: a genuinely compact pair that covers desktop stereo, small-room music and surround duties with the same drivers, voicing and finish quality as the larger models it is designed to work alongside.
