Q Acoustics 7000LRI Satellite Speakers

Q Acoustics 7000LRi Satellite Speakers

The Q Acoustics 7000LRi is the satellite speaker of the 7000i home cinema series: a compact, curved aluminium enclosure housing two 3-inch long-throw mid/bass drivers with neodymium magnets, arranged around a 1-inch ring radiator tweeter, in a 2-way sealed design with a 2.8 kHz crossover. Frequency response is 95 Hz to 20 kHz, sensitivity is 85 dB at 2.83 V (free space), nominal impedance is 6 ohms, and power handling is 15 to 100 W. Those figures are intended to partner a subwoofer, as in the matching 7000i 5.1 system, with the AV receiver’s bass management handing the low frequencies to the sub. The 7000LRi is supplied as a pair.

The design details are unusually thoughtful for a satellite. The speaker terminals are built into the integral stand, so cables disappear into the base rather than dangling from the cabinet; the same stand doubles as a wall bracket, and a ball-joint mounting lets the speaker be angled toward the listening position once fitted. The curved aluminium D-profile enclosure minimises internal standing waves and cabinet vibration, keeping the sound precise. Optional 7000ST floor stands, with cable-concealing uprights and glass bases, turn the LRi into slim floorstanding speakers.

Ring radiator tweeter, in plain terms

A ring radiator drives its diaphragm from a ring rather than from a central dome point, which controls breakup behaviour and supports clean high-frequency output with wide dispersion. That is one reason these small satellites image so convincingly across a sofa rather than only in the centre seat. The twin long-throw 3-inch drivers share the midrange and upper bass workload, and their neodymium magnets keep the elegant cabinet slim and light at 1.6 kg per speaker.

System role

The 7000LRi is voiced to match the 7000Ci centre speaker and the 7060S subwoofer in the 7000i range: use pairs as front left and right, surrounds or rear surrounds, as stereo speakers in a second room fed from a multi-zone receiver, or to extend a 5.1 system to 7.1. Set them to small in the receiver with a crossover around 100 Hz so the subwoofer handles the bottom end, in line with their 95 Hz lower limit.

Placement and mounting options

Each speaker arrives on its integral stand, ready for a shelf, a media unit or a sideboard, and the ball joint in the stand lets it be tilted and angled toward the listeners rather than firing straight ahead. Revolving the same stand turns it into a wall bracket, and keyhole fixings in the base also allow ceiling mounting where wall space is taken by artwork or glazing. With the optional 7000ST stands, the pair becomes a slim floorstanding setup with the cables hidden inside the uprights.

The 7000LRi suits style-conscious living rooms and media setups that want real home cinema sound from speakers not much larger than a paperback. Full specifications are listed in the Additional Information table on this page.
