The Bose FreeSpace 360P Series II is a full-range environmental loudspeaker built for outdoor areas where sound needs to reach everyone without a visible speaker on a pole or wall. It is designed for in-ground or above-ground installation in landscaping, so the enclosure sits low among planting at shopping malls, outdoor restaurants, resorts, theme parks and similar venues, blending into the surroundings while it works. A single downward-firing 4.5-inch advanced composite driver fires into a domed port grille that reflects the sound outward into the listening area, and the cabinet shape itself acts as an acoustic diffuser, directing mid and high-frequency energy towards listeners rather than up into the sky.

Because the coverage pattern is a full 360 degrees horizontally, one loudspeaker serves the area all around it. People sitting and standing at different distances hear a consistent level and balance, which is exactly what background music and paging in open outdoor spaces demand. Fewer loudspeakers are needed to cover a given terrace, walkway or garden, and the system design stays simpler as a result.

How the 360-degree design works

Most outdoor loudspeakers fire in one direction, which creates hot spots in front of them and dead zones behind. The 360P Series II takes the opposite approach. The driver faces downwards into a tuned, multi-chambered ported enclosure formed by the base of the loudspeaker, and the domed grille above the driver reflects energy outwards in every direction. The enclosure’s profile then diffuses the mid and high frequencies so the sound spreads smoothly across the ground plane where people actually are. The result is a wide, even pool of sound around each unit, with a 60 Hz recommended high-pass filter keeping the driver working in its comfortable range.

Power and system integration

On a 70 V or 100 V distributed line, the multi-tap transformer offers 10, 20, 40 and 80 W settings, changed easily at the loudspeaker, so designers can balance levels across a terrace or walkway from one amplifier. Long-term continuous power handling is 80 W on the line taps and 65 W in 8-ohm bypass mode, with peak handling of 320 W and 260 W respectively. Sensitivity is 88 dB at 1 W and 1 m, so modest amplifier power produces comfortable background and foreground levels across large outdoor zones. Connection is by an external multi-wire cable with wire nuts included.

Installation notes

The loudspeaker mounts in-ground or above ground, secured through three holes in its base. At 368 mm in diameter and 379 mm tall, with a net weight of 6.6 kg, it is substantial enough to stay put in exposed locations while remaining discreet in planting beds and landscaped borders. The green, textured finish is deliberate: the 360P is meant to be heard across a venue and barely noticed while doing it.
