Jbl Bar 500 Soundbar

JBL Bar 500 Soundbar – 5.1 Cinema Sound with MultiBeam and a Wireless Subwoofer

The JBL Bar 500 is a 5.1-channel soundbar system built to give a flat-screen TV the scale of sound its picture already has. The bar itself carries the front and centre channels, while a separate wireless subwoofer handles the low end, so action scenes gain weight, dialogue stays anchored to the screen, and music fills the room instead of leaking out of small television speakers. It is aimed at living rooms that want genuine home cinema impact without running speaker cable or finding space for five separate boxes.

JBL has kept the system simple: two pieces, one power connection each, and a wireless link between them, so the subwoofer can sit wherever the room sounds best. Streaming is built in too, so the system that handles film night also plays music from a phone.

Sound performance

The headline figure is 590 W of total power, split between the bar and the 10-inch subwoofer, and it shows in headroom: the Bar 500 stays composed at volumes that leave TV speakers rattling. MultiBeam uses the bar's driver array and room reflections to widen the soundstage well beyond the width of the cabinet, so effects pan convincingly across the front of the room. Dolby Atmos content adds a sense of height, placing rain, aircraft and score elements above the listening position rather than flat against the screen.

PureVoice deserves a special mention because it solves the most common soundbar complaint. The processing lifts dialogue out of busy mixes automatically, so whispered lines in a drama remain intelligible without constantly riding the volume control between scenes.

Connectivity and streaming

A single HDMI eARC cable carries audio from the television, including Atmos soundtracks, and lets the TV remote control the bar's volume. An additional HDMI input and an optical input cover games consoles, set-top boxes and older sources. For music, Wi-Fi streaming through AirPlay and Chromecast built-in delivers better quality and range than Bluetooth alone, while Bluetooth remains the quick option for guests and casual listening.

Design and placement

The bar is low and wide, sized to sit under larger televisions without blocking the screen or its infrared receiver, and it can be wall mounted if the TV is on the wall. The subwoofer connects wirelessly, so placement is about acoustics rather than cable runs, and a few minutes spent trying corner and sidewall positions usually pays off in tighter bass.

The Bar 500 suits anyone whose TV sound feels thin and who wants one tidy system for films, sport, gaming and music. If you want Atmos effect, serious bass and proper streaming in a two-box package that sets up in minutes, this is the JBL to shortlist.
