The Honeywell Suono P1000 is an 80 cm soundbar that replaces a television’s built-in speakers with a proper two-channel system: two 52 mm drivers in a 2.0 channel configuration, driven by an in-built amplifier at 15 W per channel, 30 W in total. It comes from the Platinum Series of Honeywell-branded audio products, made under licence, and it is built around a simple observation — most televisions now have pictures far better than their sound, and a single bar under the screen is the least intrusive way to close that gap.

The difference a soundbar makes is easiest to hear in dialogue. Television speakers fire downwards or backwards from drivers smaller than the ones in this bar, and speech — the part of a soundtrack viewers actually follow — is what suffers first. Two forward-facing 52 mm drivers with 30 W behind them give voices presence and weight, and give film and sport body that a slim television cabinet cannot produce.

Five ways in

The P1000 accepts audio five ways, and each suits a different source. HDMI ARC is the right choice for the television itself: one cable carries the TV’s sound to the bar, the television remote controls the bar’s volume, and the bar can power with the set. Optical does the same job for televisions without ARC. Bluetooth V5.0, with a working range of about 10 m, turns the bar into the room’s music speaker from a phone or tablet. USB plays audio files from a memory stick, and the 3.5 mm AUX input covers everything else — older televisions, computers, projectors and any source with a headphone socket.

Setup

Place the bar centred under the screen, connect the HDMI cable to the television’s ARC-marked port, and set the television’s audio output to the external or ARC device — that is the whole installation for most rooms. The bar measures 800 x 60 x 60 mm, so it fits the standard television stand footprint without blocking the screen on typical furniture, and its low profile suits wall-mounted sets with the bar on the cabinet below. For music-only use, just pair over Bluetooth and play.

What it is, and what it is not

This is a 2.0 channel bar with no separate subwoofer, and that is a deliberate format rather than a missing part: it suits bedrooms, smaller living rooms, offices and second televisions where clearer, fuller sound is wanted without a subwoofer cabinet to place and wire. Rooms that need deep cinema bass should look at a 2.1 system with a subwoofer; rooms that need the television to sound as good as it looks, from one compact bar, are exactly this product’s brief.
