Jbl Authentics 300

JBL Authentics 300 Smart Home Speaker – Portable Retro Smart Speaker with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

The JBL Authentics 300 is a portable smart home speaker that pairs a 1970s-inspired design with modern streaming. A stereo driver system with two tweeters, a full-range woofer and a down-firing passive radiator delivers full, room-filling output, while built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and voice assistants cover playback and smart home control. A rechargeable battery and carry handle let it move from room to room.

In the Authentics range, the 300 is the portable middle model, sitting between the smaller Authentics 200 and the larger Authentics 500. It is aimed at listeners who want a single speaker with the presence of a home system, the convenience of voice control and the freedom to carry it to a balcony, kitchen or bedroom without plugging it back in.

Sound performance

The two tweeters handle detail and stereo separation, the 5.25 inch woofer covers the midrange and upper bass, and the down-firing passive radiator extends the low end beyond what the cabinet size suggests. Frequency response runs from 45 Hz to 20 kHz, and automatic self-tuning calibrates the sound to the room each time the speaker is switched on and placed somewhere new.

Streaming, voice and controls

Over Wi-Fi the speaker supports streaming services and multi-room playback through the JBL One app, which also provides EQ adjustment. Both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa can be used on the same unit, which is unusual among smart speakers, and hands-free control covers music, queries and compatible smart home devices. Bluetooth 5.3 handles quick playback from a phone, and wired options include a 3.5 mm input and Ethernet.

Design and portability

The leather-like enclosure, Quadrex foam grille and aluminium handle reference classic JBL designs, and the cabinet is made in part with recycled fabric, plastics and aluminium. At 4.9 kg it is substantial rather than pocketable, but the handle and sub-3.5-hour recharge make regular room-to-room use practical.

Battery life and everyday use

On battery power the speaker plays for up to eight hours depending on volume and content, and a full recharge takes under three and a half hours, so an evening of listening does not demand an overnight charge. The top panel keeps physical controls for volume and playback alongside the voice functions, and automatic self-tuning runs when the speaker powers on, adjusting its output to the surface and room it finds itself in. That combination makes it practical to move the speaker during the day and still expect consistent sound in each position.

Choose the Authentics 300 if you want one speaker that works as a fixed smart speaker on mains power and as a portable speaker on battery, with full-bodied stereo sound and a choice of voice assistants. It suits kitchens, living rooms and covered outdoor spaces where style matters as much as sound.
