The DALI PHANTOM E-80 is the largest model in DALI’s PHANTOM E in-ceiling series, built around an 8-inch polypropylene low/mid driver and a 25 mm soft woven fabric dome tweeter in a 2-way design. Frequency range is 49 Hz to 25,000 Hz (plus/minus 3 dB), sensitivity is 89.5 dB (2.83V/1m) and maximum SPL is 107 dB — figures that let the E-80 cover larger rooms and play at realistic cinema levels from the ceiling. The woofer is mounted with a slight tilt, so each speaker can be rotated at installation to aim more sound toward the main listening position rather than straight down — a meaningful advantage for ceiling speakers used as front or centre channels. Two slide switches fine-tune the sound: an HF tilt switch adds treble presence where a room or placement demands it, and a Focus/Distributed function adapts dispersion for focused stereo listening versus wide-area distributed sound. The crossover includes a PPTC protection device that guards the drivers against overheating at sustained high levels.

Installation numbers

Each E-80 needs a cut-out of 261 mm diameter and 109 mm of mounting depth, with dog-leg clamps spanning ceiling or wall thicknesses of 10 to 70 mm. DALI recommends a rear volume of 10 to 100 litres behind the speaker (around 30 litres optimum) for best bass performance from the open-back design. Outer dimensions including the grille are 295 mm diameter by 116 mm deep, and each speaker weighs 2.5 kg with the grille fitted. Spring terminals, mounted on the crossover for the shortest signal path, take the single-wire connection.

DALI rates the E-80 for ceiling, front, centre and surround positions — so matched speakers can cover a full home cinema from in-ceiling positions, and this pair serves larger rooms for stereo music and multiroom audio where smaller ceiling speakers run out of headroom.
